‘The Sled’ is een album met een uniek goede doelen project. Dit album is niet met geld te koop. Deze download kun je als beloning krijgen voor tijd of geld dat je besteedt aan een goed doel. In december brengt Melodic Revolution Records (MRR) meestal een ‘various artist’ album uit. Het goede doel mag je natuurlijk zelf kiezen. Dat kan de voedselbank zijn, een zorginstelling, buurthuis of wat dan ook. Het enige wat MRR van je vraagt is een foto als bewijs van jouw donatie of tijd. Als je toestemming geeft, posten ze de foto op hun pagina. Op deze manier wil MRR een sneeuwbaleffect van goede daden creëren, die ook na de kerst verder gaat. Iedere gift in tijd of geld, hoe klein ook, is altijd welkom. De bands en muzikanten komen zo ongeveer uit heel de wereld en hebben hun nummers belangeloos en gratis gedoneerd.
Je hoort klassieke elementen en hoge heldere zang in ‘Fall, Leaves, Fall’. Er klinkt een lichte kerstsfeer in dit eerste nummer. Maar er zijn ook wat rockende elementen toegevoegd. Toch is het geheel vrij rustig, net als ‘Snow Globe’. Dit is prima ingetogen muziek om wat meer op de achtergrond te luisteren. ‘King of Sand Dunes’ heft zowel wat jazz sound als elektronische klanken in zich.
‘We 3 Kings’ start met voornamelijk licht en snel pianospel. Langzaam gaat het tempo naar beneden en wordt de sfeer een beetje melancholiek. Ieder nummer is duidelijk verschillend van elkaar. Dat kan ook niet anders door de diversiteit aan muzikanten. Toch sluit alles goed bij elkaar aan. Het element winter is onder andere te horen in ‘Time to Remember the Poor’. In ‘Heads in Beds’ hoor je wat Pink Floyd invloeden. Dit is een mooie, instrumentale epic.
‘YES…I Hear What You Hear!’ sluit bij de voorgaande tracks aan, maar is toch anders opgebouwd. Er zijn veel kleine details en verrassingen toegevoegd, hierdoor heeft het een licht experimenteel karakter. Er volgen een aantal vocale nummers waaronder ‘Christmas Time Is Here’. De zang klinkt wat nasaal. De tekst gaat, zoals de titel al aangeeft, echt over kerst. Door de licht rockende elementen in de muziek, is het niet te ‘kerstachtig’ buiten de kersttijd. Bijna vanzelfsprekend is ‘Christmas Blues’ een blues nummer, waarbij je de blues harp hoort. ‘For Giving’ is een prima instrumentaal nummer van Darrel Treece-Birch. Hierna komt het laatste nummer. ‘Ook Syrinx’ is volledig instrumentaal en bevat voornamelijk pianospel.
‘The Sled’ heeft voornamelijk instrumentale tracks, de één is wat vrolijker, de ander meer melancholiek. Ze verschillen, zoals eerder gezegd, genoeg van elkaar. Ondanks de grote verscheidenheid aan bands en muzikanten is deze cd geen allegaartje geworden, maar een mooie mix van hoofdzakelijk ingetogen nummers.

Still it is quite quiet, just like ‘Snow Globe‘. This is fine subdued music to listen more in the background. King of Sand Dunes‘ has some jazz sound as well as electronic sounds.
We 3 Kings‘ starts with mainly light and fast piano playing. Slowly the tempo goes down and the atmosphere becomes a bit melancholic. Each song is clearly different from each other. The diversity of musicians makes this impossible. Yet everything fits well together. The element winter can be heard in ‘Time to Remember the Poor‘. In ‘Heads in Beds‘ you can hear what Pink Floyd influences. This is a beautiful, instrumental epic.
YES…I Hear What You Hear!‘ is in line with the previous tracks, but still has a different structure. Many small details and surprises have been added, giving it a slightly experimental character. A number of vocal songs follow, including ‘Christmas Time Is Here‘. The vocals sound a bit nasal. The lyrics are, as the title suggests, really about Christmas. Because of the light rocking elements in the music, it is not too ‘Christmas-like‘ outside the Christmas period. Almost of course ‘Christmas Blues‘ is a blues song, where you hear the blues harp. For Giving‘ is an excellent instrumental song by Darrel Treece-Birch. Then comes the last song. Also ‘Syrinx‘ is completely instrumental and contains mainly piano playing.
The Sled‘ has mainly instrumental tracks, one is more cheerful, the other more melancholic. As said before, they differ enough from each other. Despite the great variety of bands and musicians, this CD is not a mishmash, but a beautiful mix of mainly subdued songs.
