Stories and books are the theme on ‘What We Really Like In Stories’. Each song is dedicated to a writer from a variety of time frames. Like Alan Moore (Batman, among others) and Tolkien, and authors from the beginning of the last century.
Three of the four band members are multi-instrumentalists. The cinematic opening is very promising, but the ending is a tiny bit disappointing. Unfortunately, this happens with more songs. The harmonious vocals sound a bit sweet at times. The (layered) vocals are always balanced with the rather quiet music. The (large amount of) instruments also form a beautiful entirety. The album is more complex than it seems, unnoticed there are sometimes quite a lot of layers, changes and/or details. The fabulous epic ‘Whispers In Space’ is inspired by Robert Rankin. If you read a lot (genres), you might hear who is being honoured. Even without (re)knowing the writers, you can enjoy this special album.

Verhalen en boeken zijn het thema op ‘What We Really Like In Stories’. Elk nummer is opgedragen aan een schrijvers uit allerlei tijdsbeelden. Zoals Alan Moore (o.a. Batman) en Tolkien, en auteurs van begin vorige eeuw.
Drie van de vier bandleden zijn multi-instrumentalist. De filmische opening is veel belovend, maar het einde valt een klein beetje tegen. Dat gebeurt helaas bij meer nummers. De harmonieuze zang klinkt soms wat zoet. De (gelaagde) zang is altijd in balans met de vrij rustige muziek. Ook de (grote hoeveelheid) instrumenten vormen onderling een mooi geheel. Het album is complexer dan het lijkt, ongemerkt zijn er soms best veel laagjes, veranderingen en/of details. De gave epic ‘Whispers In Space’ is geïnspireerd op Robert Rankin. Als je veel (genres) leest, hoor je misschien wie er geëerd wordt. Ook zonder de schrijvers te (her)kennen kun je genieten van dit bijzondere album.
