‘Pace of Change’ is the second album by prog rockers Catalyst*R. The album has unusual twists, details and sound effects/sampled sounds, as in the opening track ‘Pace of Change’. The difference in volume between the lightly and more heavily played parts is somewhat small. Damien’s (stacked) vocals are mostly in the lighter parts. The drumming is very good. ‘Dust Within The Seams’ features bits of ‘Pace of Change’. ‘Homesick’ includes acoustic guitar sounds, (prog)rock and light classical elements. ‘Pendle Hill 1612′ is unusual but beautifully constructed, the atmosphere at times mysterious. This enhances the emotion in vocals and music. The final track ,’We’ll Say Goodbye In The Rain’, is melancholic.
The ending is appropriately minimalist.
The lyrics of these seven songs (two of which are epics) are not always easy to fathom. The sound is a bit dull at times, but it is well spread across the headset. The unusual structure makes ‘Pace of Change’ perhaps less accessible but engaging.

‘Pace of Change’ is het tweede album van de prog rockers Catalyst*R. Het album heeft bijzondere wendingen, details en geluidseffecten/gesamplede geluiden, zo ook in de openingstrack ‘Pace of Change’. Het volumeverschil tussen de licht en zwaarder gespeelde delen is wat klein. De (gestapelde) zang van Damien zit meestal in de lichtere delen. Het drumwerk is zeer goed. In ‘Dust Within The Seams’ komen stukjes van ‘Pace of Change’ terug. ‘Homesick’ bevat onder andere akoestische gitaarklanken, (prog)rock en licht klassieke elementen. ‘Pendle Hill 1612’ is apart, maar prachtig opgebouwd, de sfeer is soms mysterieus. Dit versterkt de emotie in zang en muziek. De laatste track ,’We’ll Say Goodbye In The Rain’, is melancholisch. Het einde is passend minimalistisch.
De teksten van deze zeven nummers (waarvan twee epics) zijn niet altijd makkelijk te doorgronden. Het geluid is af en toe wat dof, maar het is wel goed verdeeld over de headset. Door de bijzondere opzet is ‘Pace of Change’ misschien minder toegankelijk maar wel boeiend.
