The American rock band Evanescence exists 25 years. They won two GRAMMY-Awards and sold more than 23 million albums worldwide. The new album entitled ‘The Bitter Truth’ will be launched on March 26th. This 5th studio album (released via Sony Music) contains 12 songs. A few singles have already been released, including ‘Yeah Right’. This one has more than 1 million views on You Tube. All in all, the band has had over 2 billion(!) views on You Tube.

Synthesis and The Bitter Truth
Fans have been looking forward to ‘The Bitter Truth’ for a long time, because it has been ten years since an album was released with new songs, this one entitled ‘Evanescence’. After that, ‘Synthesis’ (2017) was released. There were only two new songs on it. The other songs were orchestral versions of older ones. ‘Synthesis’ received rave reviews, and rightly so. Because the older songs had undergone a beautiful, sometimes slightly classical, metamorphosis. The expectations for ‘The Bitter Truth’ are high for several reasons. Evanescence has remained true to their characteristic epic sound, so the singles that have been released are well received by the fans. This is not only because of the good tracks, but also because ‘The Bitter Truth’ was produced by Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters and Rush, among others).

Use my voice
‘Use my voice’ is a fantastically constructed song and has beautiful lyrics. Singer Amy Lee says about it: “Everyone deserves to be heard”. Amy’s big inspiration is her grandmother. She is also inspired by all kinds of people, including women who keep going in difficult situations. It is a great honour for her to be an inspiration to others. A while ago, Hollywood was in the spotlight because of the MeToo commotion. So far, the music industry has remained fairly quiet, but for how much longer? Amy hopes that she will give women the courage and strength to come forward if necessary.

Within Temptation and Evanescence
Some of the lyrics are personal, they were like a therapy session for Amy. Once you get close to your feelings, it’s not that difficult to write a personal text in outline. But it is difficult, Amy says, to find exactly the right words, and to sing them with the right emotion.
She tries to get something good out of a bad situation or event.
Of course the Covid pandemic had its impact on the album, there is more passion and more depth in the songs. In addition, due to Covid, last year’s European tour was postponed, it has been moved to September this year. This is a co-headlining tour with Within Temptation, with of course Sharon den Adel as front woman.
During this tour, called ‘World’s Collide Tour’, these two power women will perform on stage together. Of course, there are also performances planned in the Netherlands. Evanescence lanceert binnenkort The Bitter Truth

De Amerikaanse rockband Evanescence bestaat ruimt 25 jaar. Ze wonnen twee GRAMMY-Awards en verkochten wereldwijd meer dan 23 miljoen albums. Het nieuwe album met de titel ‘The Bitter Truth’ wordt 26 maart gelanceerd. Op dit 5e studio-album (dat via Sony Music uitkomt) staan 12 nummers.
Er zijn al een paar singles uitgebracht, waaronder ‘Yeah Right’. Deze heeft op You Tube al meer dan 1 miljoen views. Alles bij elkaar heeft de band op You Tube al ruim 2 miljard(!) views.

Synthesis en The Bitter Truth
Fans kijken al een hele tijd uit naar ‘The Bitter Truth’, want het is alweer tien jaar geleden dat er een album werd uitgebracht met nieuwe nummers, dit was ‘Evanescence’. Hierna verscheen ‘Synthesis’ (2017).
Hierop stonden maar twee nieuwe nummers. De overige nummers waren orkestrale versies van oudere nummers ‘Synthesis’ kreeg heel terecht lovende recensies. Want de oudere nummers hadden een prachtige, soms licht klassieke, metamorfose ondergaan. De verwachtingen voor ‘The Bitter Truth’ zijn om verschillende redeneren hooggespannen. Evanescence is trouw gebleven aan hun kenmerkende epische geluid, de singles die zijn uitgekomen vallen dus goed in de smaak bij de fans. Dat komt niet alleen door de goede tracks, maar ook omdat ‘The Bitter Truth’ geproduceerd is door Nick Raskulinecz (onder andere Foo Fighters en Rush).

Use my voice
‘Use my voice’ is een fantastisch opgebouwd nummer en heeft een mooie tekst. Zangeres Amy Lee zegt over hierover: “Iedereen verdient het om gehoord te worden”. Amy’s grote inspiratiebron is haar oma. Daarnaast wordt ze door allerlei mensen geïnspireerd, waaronder vrouwen die zich staande houden in moeilijke situaties. Ze vindt het een grote eer als zij een inspiratiebron is voor anderen. Een poosje geleden stond Hollywood in het teken van de MeToo beweging. Tot nu toe is het vanuit de muziekindustrie vrij stil gebleven, maar hoe lang nog? Amy hoopt dat ze vrouwen de moed en kracht geeft om, als dat nodig is, ermee naar buiten te komen.

Within Temptation en Evanescence
Sommige teksten zijn persoonlijk, ze vormden als het ware een therapiesessie voor Amy. Als je eenmaal dicht bij je gevoel bent gekomen, is het niet zo moeilijk om in grote lijnen een persoonlijke tekst te schrijven. Maar het is, aldus Amy, wel moeilijk om precies de juiste woorden te vinden, en deze met de juiste emotie te zingen.
Ze probeert om uit een slechte situatie of gebeurtenis iets goed te halen. Natuurlijk had de Covid pandemie invloed op het album, er is meer passie en meer diepgang in de nummers gekomen. Bovendien werd door Covid de Europese tour van vorig jaar uitgesteld, deze is verplaatst naar september dit jaar. Dit is een co-headline tour met Within Temptation, met natuurlijk ‘onze’ Sharon den Adel als frontvrouw. Tijdens deze tour, met de naam World’s Collide Tour’, zullen deze twee powervrouwen samen op het podium staan. Natuurlijk zijn er ook optredens in Nederland gepland. Maar daar moeten we nog een half jaar op wachten. Gelukkig komt ‘The Bitter Truth’ bijna uit, je kunt nog een pre-order plaatsen. Hier volgt met ‘Use My Voice’ alvast een voorproefje.
