D-Rosas is a project of guitarist/composer Gesuino Derosas. He played in the rock band Terra Nova, with which he toured Japan. He also plays in Van Hagar, a Van Halen tribute band. Greedy (I Can Feel It) is the debut EP; it was self-released. John ‘Jaycee’ Cuijpers is the vocalist, he is known from Praying Mantis and Ayreon, among others.
The album opens with the title track, which immediately sounds wonderful. This is not only because of the guitar playing, but also because of the rhythm section. A little later, John’s vocals are added. This opening track is perhaps a little quieter than expected. But this is definitely well-constructed rock, as there are nice details in vocals and music. The sound quality makes it all come together well. So does the guitar solo, and the solo vocals. These ingredients ensure that the song soon sticks pleasantly in your head.
‘Losing You’ is rousing, again there are nice details in the music. At the start of ‘Dying World’ hear the piano sounds, the music is still a bit calmer here. But soon becomes a bit heavier. There is a nice interplay between lighter and heavier pieces. John adapts his vocals perfectly to this, so vocals and music remain in constant balance. The build-up makes it great to roar along with the CD, although hardly anyone will be able to sing as well as John. His power outs are especially impressive. This last song thaws out nicely. Three good songs taste like more…like a lot more. This calls for a full CD, hopefully that will come soon

Het album opent met de titeltrack, dit klinkt meteen heerlijk. Dat komt niet alleen door het gitaarspel, maar ook door de ritmesectie. Even later komt daar de zang van John bij. Dit openingsnummer is misschien wat rustiger dan verwacht. Maar dit is absoluut goed opgebouwde rock, want er zitten leuke details in zang en muziek. Door de geluidskwaliteit komt het allemaal goed tot zijn recht. Dat geldt ook voor de gitaarsolo, en de solo zang. Deze ingrediënten zorgen ervoor dat het nummer al snel aangenaam in je hoofd blijft kleven.
‘Losing You’ is opzwepend, weer zijn er leuke details in de muziek. Aan de start van ‘Dying World’ hoor de pianoklanken, de muziek is hier nog wat rustiger. Maar wordt al snel wat zwaarder. Er ontstaat een mooie wisselwerking tussen lichtere en zwaarder opgebouwde stukken. John past zijn zang daar prima op aan, zo blijven zang en muziek constant in balans. Door de opbouw is het heerlijk om met de cd mee te brullen, al zal bijna niemand zo goed kunnen zingen als John. Vooral zijn power uithalen zijn indrukwekkend. Dit laatste nummer dooft mooi uit. Drie goede nummers smaken naar meer…naar veel meer. Dit vraagt om een full cd, hopelijk komt die snel.
