‘Here to Stay’ is the new album by multi-instrumentalist Ron Coolen. The 13 tracks are full of delicious and very varied guitar playing, frequently you can hear several guitars at once. This comes from Ron, and from seven guest guitarists who play the wonderful solos. Ron plays the other instruments, his dynamic drumming positively stands out. The ballad ‘Jaded Eyes’ has a surprising start. The rough edge on Keith St John’s voice comes out nicely again. The power vocals (in several layers) and high-pitched vocals are excellent. The tracks are well constructed, although you might have to get used to the transitions in the very short and unusual title track. The intros as well as the outros are good, plus there are several surprising sound effects and/or details. The accessible tracks range from “old school” hard rock to metal, and invite you to turn up the volume nice and far.

‘Here to Stay’ is het nieuwe album van multi-instrumentalist Ron Coolen. De 13 tracks zitten vol heerlijk en zeer gevarieerd gitaarspel, regelmatig hoor je meerdere gitaren tegelijk. Dit komt van Ron, en van zeven gastgitaristen die de gave solo’s spelen. De overige instrumenten speelt Ron, zijn dynamische drumwerk valt positief op. De ballad ‘Jaded Eyes’ heeft een verrassende start. Het ruwe randje op de stem van Keith St John komt weer mooi naar voren. De power-zang (in meerdere laagjes) en de hoge tonen zijn prima. De tracks zijn goed opgebouwd, al moet je misschien wel wennen aan de overgangen in de hele korte en bijzondere titeltrack. Zowel de intro’s als de outro’s zijn goed, bovendien zijn er diverse verrassende geluidseffecten en/of details. De toegankelijke tracks variëren van “old school” hard rock naar metal, en nodigen uit om het volume lekker ver open te zetten.
