‘One Of The Many’ is the new progressive rock album by singer and multi-instrumentalist Rick Miller. The album cover reveals that the digital world features in the lyrics. ‘Atrophy’ is about brain atrophy, the surreal atmosphere fits this well. The sweet (stacked) vocals are characteristic of Rick. Most tracks contain remarkable sampling, appropriate to the track. The sound is good, plus there are plenty of details and twists. These flow well; except for one small, but bothersome bug in ‘Perchance To Dream’. The alternation/balance between (bass) guitar and the keyboard instruments is fine. The guitar playing is diverse: compelling one moment, slightly rocking a little later, then acoustic again, sometimes in several layers at once. The drumming is calm, but detailed. The flute playing occasionally merges with the music, at other times it comes more to the front. The string instruments are calm but intriguingly played. The pleasantly long instrumental pieces are partly melancholic. This makes the complexity less noticeable. ‘One Of The Many’ is an album to enjoy in all quietness.

‘One Of The Many’ is het nieuwe progressieve rock album van zanger en multi- instrumentalist Rick Miller. De albumcover verraadt dat de digitale wereld in de songteksten voor komt. ‘Atrophy’ gaat over hersenatrofie, de surrealistisch sfeer sluit hier goed bij aan. De zoete (gestapelde) zang is kenmerkend voor Rick. De meeste tracks bevatten bijzondere sampling, passend bij de track. Het geluid is goed, bovendien zijn er volop details en wendingen. Deze verlopen goed; behalve één klein, maar storend foutje in ‘Perchance To Dream’. De afwisseling/balans tussen (bas)gitaar en de toetsinstrumenten is prima. Het gitaarspel is divers: het ene moment meeslepend, even later licht rockend, dan weer akoestisch, soms in verschillende laagjes tegelijk. Het drumwerk is rustig, maar gedetailleerd. Het fluitspel smelt af en toe samen met de muziek, op andere momenten komt het meer naar voren. De strijkinstrumenten zijn kalm, maar intrigerend bespeeld. De aangenaam lange instrumentale stukken zijn deels melancholisch. Hierdoor valt de complexiteit minder op. ‘One Of The Many’ is een album om in alle rust van te genieten.
