Quantum Fantay recently launched ‘Oneironauts’, this consists of two Greek words: ‘oneiro’, meaning dream, and ‘naut’ meaning sailor. This instrumental concept album is about two lovers, they have the talent to travel deliberately through their dreams. You’ll hear more synthesizers, soundscapes, and sound effects than on their previous albums. But bass and guitar are certainly not forgotten. In addition, several tracks feature flute playing: for instance, the opening track ‘Flight Into Hive Mind’ and the title track. ‘Orchid Borealis’ is the final track. Orchids have a symbolic meaning in many cultures, perhaps also on this album? ‘Oneironauts’ is not a ‘dreamy’ album. Although there are some minimalist sections, most of the time there is quite a lot to listen to. This is partly because of the many details. The alternation/melange between synthesisers and (bass) guitar is fine. For some rock fans, certain parts will sound too ‘’electronic’’. In addition, the amount of repeats might be on the large side for this group. Still, all is complemented well by drums and percussion. ‘Oneironauts’ has clearly been composed with care.

Dit instrumentale conceptalbum gaat over twee geliefden, ze hebben de gave om bewust door hun dromen te reizen. Je hoort meer synthesizers, soundscapes, en geluidseffecten dan op hun vorige albums. Maar bas en gitaar worden zeker niet vergeten. Daarnaast bevatten diverse tracks fluitspel: bijvoorbeeld de openingstrack ‘Flight Into Hive Mind’ en de titeltrack. ‘Orchid Borealis’ is de laatste track. Orchideeën hebben in veel culturen een symbolische betekenis, misschien ook op dit album? ’Oneironauts’ is geen “dromerig” album. Hoewel er enkele minimalistische stukjes zijn, is er meestal best veel om naar te luisteren. Dat komt onder andere door de vele details. De afwisseling/melange tussen synthesizers en (bas) gitaar is prima. Voor een aantal rockliefhebbers zullen bepaalde delen te “elektronische” klinken. Daarnaast is het aantal herhalingen voor deze groep misschien aan de grote kant. Toch wordt het geheel goed aangevuld door drums en percussie. ‘Oneironauts’ is duidelijk met zorg samengesteld.
