Fans of Swedish metal band Dream Evil have had to wait six years for their seventh album, titled ‘Metal Gods’. This opens with the rousing title track. The backing vocals in particular make you automatically sing along loudly with the words ‘Metal Gods’. There isn’t just delicious screaming guitar playing, the heavier sounds of (bass) guitar also can be heard. The drumming is good, but the sound is a little too plain. The ‘light classical’ elements of ‘Chosen Force’ sound a little too bleak. ‘The Tyrant Dies at Dawn’ has fine backing vocals. If this uptempo song is played live, the roof will surely be blown off. On the CD, you can feel the energy, the volume is turned up pretty high here. The music ‘thunders’ through the living room. The distribution across the speakers is well chosen. The structure of the (mostly) rousing songs is quite predictable, so there are not many big surprises. The clear pronunciation makes it pretty easy to sing along. ‘Metal Gods’ is an album that requires you to crank up the volume considerably.

De fans van de Zweedse metal band Dream Evil hebben zes jaar moeten wachten op het zevende album, met als titel ‘Metal Gods’. Dit opent met de opzwepende titeltrack. Door de achtergrondzang zing je vooral de woorden “Metal Gods” vanzelf luidkeels mee. Er is niet alleen heerlijk gillend gitaarspel, ook de zwaardere klanken van (bas)gitaar komen aan bod. Het drumwerk is goed, maar het geluid is een beetje te vlak. De “licht klassieke” elementen ‘Chosen Force’ klinken iets te kli. ‘The Tyrant Dies at Dawn’ heeft prima achtergrondzang. Als dit uptempo nummer live gespeeld wordt, gaat het dak er vast af. Op de cd voel je de energie, het volume gaat hier flink omhoog. De muziek “dendert” door de huiskamer. Er is leuk gespeeld met de verdeling over de boxen. De opbouw van de (grotendeels) opzwepende nummers is vrij voorspelbaar, waardoor er weinig grote verrassingen zijn. Door de duidelijke uitspraak zing je vrij gemakkelijk mee. ‘Metal Gods’ is een album dat er om vraagt om het volume flink op te schroeven.
