Singer AJ Plug’s new album is called ‘Underneath your skin’. She has overcome cancer, but that does not mean it has disappeared from her life. This becomes clear during the opening track ‘Part of me’. The pleasant rhythm provides positivity and strength. ‘Hold me’ is sensitively sung. It starts calm, but gets faster and more powerful. ‘Now you’re gone’ has a beautiful intro. Beautiful, compelling guitar playing is added to the gentle flow. With its catchy rhythm, ‘Mistaken’ will be a mood creator during gigs. The beautiful power ballad ‘Your love’ has a perfect balance between the calm flow and the slightly screaming guitar playing. ‘Here to stay’ starts calmly with sounds of acoustic guitar and violin, complemented by clear vocals. Tempo and volume increase. This song also has a positive vibe. The build-up and ending of some songs is a bit predictable, but the intros are often beautifully chosen. The recognisable, sometimes slightly cliché-matched lyrics are clearly sung.‘Underneath your skin’ may be a source of comfort for those who have been through this (and/or other) misery.

Het nieuwe album van zangeres AJ Plug heet ‘Underneath your skin’. Ze heeft kanker overwonnen, maar dat wil niet zeggen dat het uit haar leven is verdwenen. Dat wordt duidelijk tijdens het openingsnummer ‘Part of me’. Het aangename ritme zorgt voor positiviteit en kracht. ’Hold me’ is gevoelig gezongen. Het begint kalm, maar wordt sneller en krachtiger. ‘Now you’re gone’ heeft een mooi intro. Aan de fijne flow wordt prachtig, meeslepend gitaarspel toegevoegd. Door het pakkende ritme zal ’Mistaken’ zal een sfeermaker zijn tijdens optredens. De mooie power ballad ‘Your love’ heeft een perfecte wisselwerking tussen de rustige flow en het licht gillend gitaarspel. ‘Here to stay’ start kalm met klanken van akoestisch gitaar en viool, aangevuld met heldere zang. Tempo en volume nemen toe. Ook dit nummer heeft een positieve vibe. De opbouw en het einde van enkele nummers is wat voorspelbaar, maar de intro’s zijn vaak mooi gekozen. De herkenbare, soms licht cliché-matige teksten zijn duidelijk gezongen.‘Underneath your skin’ kan een bron van troost zijn voor wie dit (en/of andere ellende) heeft gemaakt.
