World on Fire is the debut album from the international rock band Tiffany Kills. The six-piece band includes lead singer John (Jaycee) Cuijpers (Ayreon and Praying Mantis, among others), and guitarists/backing vocalists Christian Tolle (C.T.P) and Mathias ‘Don’ Dieth. The start of ‘I’ll Come Running’ is energetic and rocking. John has a beautiful rock voice with fairly clear pronunciation. The backing vocals are added at fairly predictable moments, but they are a good addition. There is plenty of guitar playing and some beautiful solos. All this is complemented by the excellent rhythm section. There are plenty of delightful details in the music. Moreover, the vocals and music are well spread across the headset. After a beautiful ending, ‘Star Rider’ follows. Although this track is slightly slower at times, the rock remains pleasantly present.
‘Breathless’ has a calm start. When the music gets a little louder, the organ sounds are sometimes a little too far in the background. Otherwise, the balance between the instruments and between vocals and music is excellent. This makes this accessible track a pleasure to listen to, as are the tracks that follow. Despite the verse-chorus structure, there are plenty of details to keep you interested. Not only is there a lot of beautiful guitar playing, but the bass is also regularly clearly audible. The drumming contains enjoyable breaks and fills. The music is well spread across the headset, which can also be heard in “The Higher They Climb”, for example. Each song has beautiful and/or surprising elements. John’s vocal range is impressive, but the backing vocals are also noteworthy. This applies not only to the men, but also to Mendy Sneijers. Her voice is definitely a beautiful addition.

The title track starts with sampling of sirens, among other things. Then the music comes in, at first “cautiously” but the tempo becomes rousing. This is a sing-along song, which will surely come to the fore when played live. However, few will be able to match the band’s vocal level. Cool instrumental pieces are interspersed with beautiful vocal parts. Not all the words are entirely easy to understand, so a booklet with the lyrics would have been appreciated. ‘World on Fire’ is a well-chosen title track.
The organ sounds are more prominent in ‘Too Young’. Once again, the excellent guitar playing stands out.

During the intro to ‘Caught In The Middle’, you can hear the sounds of an acoustic guitar for a moment. This blends well with the organ sounds. The volume of the music increases briefly. Later, there is an alternation/blend between acoustic and electric guitar playing. In addition, there are broad contrasts between light and heavy elements in the music. The music and (background) vocals remain in balance. The sounds of acoustic guitar and organ return briefly at the end. This track is so beautiful that it could easily have been the title track.

At the beginning of ‘Rock My World’, you feel that there is going to be a change to a faster tempo. But the rest of the song is different than expected, which is lovely! After listening to it a few times, you can sing along to parts of the chorus. This song has beautiful tempo and volume differences and cool, rousing parts with beautiful drumming.
Finally, ‘In And Outta Love’, the ending is quite unexpected, yet it doesn’t feel unnatural.

Tiffany Kills consists of good musicians and vocalists. ‘World on Fire’ contains delicious, unadulterated rock. With this debut album, Tiffany Kills have a real claim to fame.

‘World on fire’ is het debuut album van de internationale rockband Tiffany Kills. De zeskoppige band bestaat onder andere uit leadzanger John (jaycee) Cuijpers (Ayreon en Praying Mantis e.a), en gitaristen/backing vocalisten Christian Tolle (C.T.P) en Mathias “Don” Dieth. De start van ‘I’ll Come Running’ is energiek en rockend. John heeft een mooie rockstem met een vrij duidelijke uitspraak. De achtergrondzang is op redelijk voorspelbare momenten ingezet, maar wel goed toegevoegd. Er is lekker veel gitaarspel en er zijn mooie solo’s. Dit alles wordt aangevuld door de prima ritmesectie. Er zijn volop leuke details in de muziek. Bovendien zijn zang en muziek goed verdeeld over de headset. Na een mooi einde volgt ‘Star Rider’. Hoewel deze track met vlagen iets langzamer is, blijft de rock aangenaam aanwezig.
‘Breathless’ heeft een kalme start. Als de muziek wat luider wordt, zijn de orgelklanken soms iets te ver op de achtergrond. Verder is de balans tussen de instrumenten onderling en tussen zang en muziek prima. Daardoor is het genieten van deze toegankelijke track, dat geldt ook voor de tracks die volgen. Ondanks de couplet-refrein opbouw, zijn er ruim voldoende details om te blijven boeien. Er is niet alleen veel mooi gitaarspel, maar ook de bas is regelmatig lekker duidelijk te horen. Het drumwerk bevat leuke breaks en fills. De muziek is goed verdeeld over de headset, dat is ook te horen in bijvoorbeeld ‘The Higher They Climb’. Ieder nummer heeft mooie en/of verrassende elementen. De vocale uithalen van John zijn goed, maar de backing vocals mogen er ook zijn. Dat geldt niet alleen voor de mannen, maar ook voor Mendy Sneijers. Haar stem is absoluut een mooie aanvulling.

De titeltrack start met sampling van onder andere sirenes. Dan komt de muziek erbij, eerst nog “voorzichtig” maar het tempo wordt opzwepend. Dit is een meezinger, dat zal live gespeeld vast wel tot uiting gaan komen. Maar: weinigen zullen het vocale niveau van de band halen. Gave instrumentale stukken worden afwisseling met mooie vocale delen. Niet alle woorden zijn helemaal goed te verstaan, een tekstboekje zou toch wel fijn geweest zijn. ‘World on fire’ is een goed gekozen titeltrack.
De orgelklanken komen in ‘Too Young’ duidelijker naar voren. Weer valt het goede gitaarspel op.

Tijdens het intro van ‘Caught In The Middle’ hoor je even de klanken van een akoestisch gitaar. Dit vormt een prima melange met de orgelklanken. Het volume in de muziek neemt even toe. Later is er een afwisseling/melange tussen akoestisch en elektrisch gitaarspel. Daarnaast zijn er ruime contrasten tussen lichte en zware elementen in de muziek. Muziek en (achtergrond)zang blijven in balans. De klanken van akoestisch gitaar en orgel keren op het laatst nog even terug. Deze track is zó
mooi, dat ook dit gerust de titeltrack had kunnen zijn.

Bij aanvang van ‘Rock My World’ voel je dat er een wending naar meer tempo gaat komen. Maar het vervolg is toch anders dan verwacht, leuk!
Delen van het refrein kun je na paar keer luisteren mee zingen. Dit nummer bevat mooie tempo-en volume verschillen en gave opzwepende delen met mooi drumspel.
Tot slot ‘In And Outta Love’, het einde is vrij onverwacht, toch voelt het niet onnatuurlijk aan.

Tiffany Kills bestaat uit goede muzikanten en vocalisten. ‘World on fire’ bevat heerlijke, onvervalste rock. Met dit debuut album heeft Tiffany Kills zich prima op de kaart gezet.
