Törzs is a post-rock band from Hungary. Menedék is the fourth album by this trio. With their experimental rock, they create complex, instrumental songs to which they add shoegaze elements. The calm intro to ‘Egy pillanatban a végtelen’ (‘Infinity in a moment’) is intriguing. The same goes for the rest of the album. Most of the changes in tempo and volume are gradual, and the composition is captivating. You can feel the emotion with which they play, and I am regularly touched by their music. This happens not only in the soberly played parts, but also in the forte (loud) parts. Törzs maintains this throughout the entire album. There are beautiful interactions between very subdued/minimalist music and rock-metal and/or intensely played parts. It is always surprising how a song continues. Occasionally, a song seems to be ending, but then it turns out to be a twist. Every song has a beautiful ending, but there could have been a little more variety in the way the songs end. The balance and variety between the instruments is excellent. ‘Menedék’ is an album to enjoy in peace and quiet.

Törzs is een post-rock band uit Hongarije. ‘Menedék’ is het vierde album van dit drietal. Met hun experimentele rock creëren ze complexe, instrumentale nummers waar ze shoegaze elementen aan toevoegen. Het kalme intro van ‘Egy pillanatban a végtelen’ (‘Infinity in a moment’) is intrigerend. Dat geldt ook voor het vervolg. De meeste wendingen in tempo en volume verlopen geleidelijk, de compositie is boeiend. Je voelt de emotie waarmee gespeeld wordt, regelmatig word ik geraakt door hun muziek. Dat gebeurt niet alleen in de sober gespeelde delen, maar ook in de forte (dus luid) gespeelde stukken. Dit houdt Törzs het hele album vol. Er zijn prachtige wisselwerkingen tussen hele ingetogen/minimalistische muziek, en rock-metal en/of intens gespeelde delen. Het is steeds weer verrassend hoe een nummer verder gaat. Af en toe lijkt een nummer te eindigen, maar dan blijkt het een wending te zijn. Ieder nummer heeft een mooi einde, maar er had iets meer variatie in mogen zitten op de manier waarom de nummers eindigen. De balans en afwisseling tussen de instrumenten is prima. ‘Menedék’ is een album om in alle rust van te genieten.
