Alcàntara is a progressive/psychedelic rock band from Italy. The Persian album title ‘Tamam Shud’ means “it is finished”. The lyrics are sung in both English and Italian. With no fewer than three guitarists, there is plenty of beautiful guitar playing to be heard. At times, the bass also comes to the fore. The drumming is balanced with the music throughout. Three of the six songs feature keyboard/organ playing. The violin playing in ‘Wodwo/Vertigo’ (the last song) forms a unity with the whole.
There are beautiful minimalist and/or psychedelic parts interwoven in the songs. Occasionally you can hear fingers sliding across the strings of a guitar.
In a few songs, sampled sounds have been added, which are quite soft in relation to the music. The transition from sampling to music is not always natural. Furthermore, the layers and details in the music are beautifully balanced and well spread across the headset. Occasionally, the vocals are layered, which has been done with care. Most changes in tempo and volume are fairly gradual. ‘Tamam Shud’ is an album with a pleasant, fairly calm flow.

Alcàntara -Tamam Shud

Alcàntara is een progressive/ psychedelische rockband uit Italië. De Perzische albumtitel ‘Tamam Shud’ is Perzisch betekent: het is voorbij. De teksten worden zowel in het Engels als het Italiaans gezongen. Door maar liefst drie gitaristen hoor je veel mooi gitaarspel. Met vlagen komt ook de bas duidelijk naar voren. Het drumwerk is overal in balans met de muziek. Drie van de zes nummers bevatten keyboard/orgelspel. Het vioolspel in ‘Wodwo/Vertigo’ (het laatste nummer) vormt een eenheid met het geheel.
Er zitten prachtige minimalistische en/of psychedelische delen in de nummers verweven. Af en toe hoor je de vingers over de snaren van een gitaar glijden.
In een paar nummers zijn er gesampelde geluiden toegevoegd, deze zijn vrij zacht in verhouding tot de muziek. De overgang van sampling naar muziek verloopt niet overal natuurlijk. Verder zijn de laagjes en details in de muziek mooi in balans en bovendien goed verdeeld over de headset. Af en toe is de zang gestapeld, dit is duidelijk met zorg gedaan. De meeste veranderingen in tempo en volume verlopen redelijk geleidelijk. ‘Tamam Shud’ is een album met een aangename, vrij kalme flow.
