Physical Graffiti is an international Led Zeppelin tribute band. Last summer, they performed at Bospop (Weert). Saturday night 20 January they played in Weert again, this time in venue De Bosuil. The age of the audience was varied; many visitors were too young to have seen the real Led Zeppelin live. Well before the start, it was already pleasantly crowded inside.
The lights in the hall dimmed, without show elements this five-piece band entered the stage. They started with ‘The Wanton Song’. Non-stop following ‘Heartbreaker’. Frontman Andrew Elt had an energetic way of performing. Bassist Dave Harrold was playing very calmly, but you could see him enjoying himself. Guitarist Daniel Verberk’s solo was very good. Through non-verbal communication, the men joined in again as one. During the instrumental piece, Andrew played tambourine. Again, he was lively and played intensely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Gallows Pole<\/strong>
‘Misty Mountain Hop’ was one of the songs where Remco van Zandvoort not played on his Hammond, but on the Mellotron. Here, the vocals were occasionally not quite perfect. Jan Gabriel’s Ludwig drum kit is beautiful in sound, besides he played well. ‘Since I’ve Been Loving You’ was sensitively sung and played. The Hammond came into its own nicely. The superb guitar playing formed a marvellous combination with Andrew’s wordless vocals. Again, his inspiration stood out. Dave played with his eyes closed, he was one with the music.
On the beamer you saw old footage, flyers, tickets and album\/single covers.
Moreover, there was enough interaction between the band members. So there was plenty to look at. ‘Gallows Pole’ started with acoustic guitar playing and calm vocals. Slowly, tempo and volume increased. Getting faster and faster, the sudden ending was well played. During ‘Black Dog’ a string broke but Daniel played on fine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

‘No Quarter<\/strong>
Remco played the subdued intro of ‘No Quarter’ on his Mellotron, in the hall there was some chatter here and there. There was a lot of smoke on stage, which suited the atmosphere. Andrew sang and moved in an intense way. Remco’s minimalist, pleasantly long solo was beautiful. Fortunately, the audience was quiet by now. Rightly, he received an interim applause. The instrumental piece that followed was pure enjoyment. Andrew’s vocals were calm but intense. He seemed to reach the high vocal range effortlessly. Daniel briefly played the Theremin. The audience was impressed by the way this song was played. Both the rests and the sudden ending of ‘Nobody’s Fault but Mine’ were flawless.<\/p>\n\n\n

Moby Dick<\/strong>
After the funky ‘Trampled Under Foot’, the bass intro to ‘Dazed and Confused’ was immediately recognised. The lights and smoke added to the special atmosphere. (Almost) every Led Zeppelin tribute band has this wonderful song on their setlist. People didn’t see this for the first time, but it is still magical to see a guitar being played with a bow. It is almost unimaginable what Daniel managed to get out of his guitar. The wordless vocals again formed a beautiful whole with the guitar playing. This fantastic performance was rewarded with generous applause. Andrew praised the band members, especially Jan, and announced ‘Moby Dick’. Jan was beautifully highlighted during his extended solo. The audience responded especially enthusiastically to how he played timpani.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Daniel picked up his double-neck guitar for ‘Stairway to Heaven’, this big hit was not to be missed. ‘Rock and Roll’ was the last song. Fortunately, the men returned for an encore. The first song of this was ‘Kashmir’, followed by ‘Whole Lotta Love’. Daniel drew extraordinary sounds from his guitar and played the Theremin. A little later, Andrew joined in. This was beautifully spotlighted, enhancing this moment. Again, the tempo and volume changes were well played. The audience spontaneously sang along a few phrases. This last song ended with a fast-paced piece. The extended final applause was well deserved. Because without a break, Physical Graffiti had played virtuoso for almost 2.5 hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Physical Graffiti was virtuoos in De Bosuil<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Physical Graffiti is een internationale Led Zeppelin tribute band. Afgelopen zomer stonden ze op Bospop (Weert). Zaterdagavond 20 januari speelden ze weer in Weert, nu in De Bosuil. De leeftijd van het publiek was gevarieerd, veel bezoekers waren te jong om de echte Led Zeppelin live gezien te hebben. Ruim voor aanvang was het al gezellig druk binnen.
De lichten in de zaal doofden, zonder showelementen betrad dit vijftal het podium. Ze startten met \u2018The Wanton Song\u2019. Non-stop volgende \u2018Heartbreaker\u2019. Frontman Andrew Elt had een energieke manier van performen. Bassist Dave Harrold stond heel rustig te spelen, maar je zag hem genieten. De solo van gitarist Daniel Verberk was zeer goed. Door non-verbale communicatie vielen de mannen als \u00e9\u00e9n man weer bij. Tijdens het instrumentale stuk speelde Andrew tamboerijn. Ook hier was hij beweeglijk en speelde intens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gallows Pole<\/strong>
\u2018Misty Mountain Hop\u2019 was \u00e9\u00e9n van de nummers waar Remco van Zandvoort niet op zijn Hammond speelde, maar op de Mellotron. Hier was de zang af en toe niet helemaal zuiver. De Ludwig drumkit van Jan Gabriel is mooi van klank, bovendien speelde hij prima. \u2018Since I’ve Been Loving You\u2019 werd gevoelig gezongen en gespeeld. De Hammond kwam mooi tot zijn recht. Het gave gitaarspel vormde een super combinatie met de woordeloze zang van Andrew. Weer viel zijn bezieling op. Dave speelde met gesloten ogen, hij was \u00e9\u00e9n met de muziek.
Op de beamer zag je oude beelden, flyers, toegangskaartje en album\/single covers.
Bovendien was er voldoende interactie tussen de bandleden. Er was dus genoeg te zien. \u2018Gallows Pole\u2019 startte met akoestisch gitaarspel en kalme zang. Langzaam namen tempo en volume toe. Steeds sneller werd het, het plotselinge einde werd goed gespeeld. Tijdens \u2018Black Dog\u2019 brak een snaar maar Daniel speelde prima door.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018No Quarter<\/strong>
Remco speelde het ingetogen intro van \u2018No Quarter\u2019 op zijn Mellotron, in de zaal werd er her en der gepraat. Er was veel rook op het podium, dat paste bij de sfeer. Andrew zong en bewoog op een intense manier. De minimalistische, aangenaam lange solo van Remco was prachtig. Gelukkig was het publiek inmiddels stil. Terecht kreeg hij een tussentijds applaus. Het instrumentale stuk wat hierop volgde was puur genieten. Andrews zang was rustig maar intens. De hoge vocale uithalen leek hij moeiteloos te halen. Daniel bespeelde even de Theremin. Het publiek was onder de indruk van de manier waarop dit nummer gespeeld werd. Zowel de rusten als het plotselinge einde van \u2018Nobody’s Fault but Mine\u2019 waren foutloos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moby Dick<\/strong>
Na het funky \u2018Trampled Under Foot\u2019 werd het bas intro van \u2018Dazed and Confused\u2019 meteen herkend. Het licht en de rook gaven de bijzondere sfeer nog wat extra\u2019s. (Bijna) iedere Led Zeppelin tribute band heeft dit geweldige nummer op de setlist staan. Men zag dit niet voor het eerst, maar het blijft magisch om te zien als een gitaar met een strijkstok bespeeld wordt. Het is bijna onvoorstelbaar wat Daniel uit zijn gitaar wist te halen. De woordeloze zang vormde weer een mooi geheel met het gitaarspel. Deze fantastische uitvoering werd met een royaal applaus beloond. Andrew roemde de bandleden en met name Jan, en kondigde \u2018Moby Dick\u2019 aan. Jan werd tijdens zijn uitgebreide solo mooi in het licht gezet. Het publiek reageerde vooral enthousiast op manier waarop hij pauk speelde.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Daniel pakte zijn dubbelhals gitaar voor \u2018Stairway to Heaven\u2019, deze grote hit mocht niet ontbreken. \u2018Rock and Roll\u2019 was het laatste nummer. Gelukkig kwamen de mannen terug voor een toegift. Het eerste nummer hiervan was \u2018Kashmir\u2019, gevolgd door \u2018Whole Lotta Love\u2019. Daniel haalde bijzondere geluiden uit zijn gitaar en bespeelde de Theremin. Even later deed Andrew mee. Dit werd mooi belicht, waardoor dit moment nog beter tot zijn recht kwam. Ook nu werden de tempo-en volume wisselingen goed gespeeld. Het publiek zong enkele zinnen spontaan mee. Dit laatste nummer eindigde met een snel gespeeld stuk. Het uitgebreide slotapplaus was dik verdiend. Want zonder pauze had Physical Graffiti bijna 2,5 uur virtuoos gespeeld.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
