Hekz is a prog rock\/metal band from London. On ‘Mayday’, the first single from upcoming album ‘Terra Nova’, you could already hear the new direction Hekz has taken. When ‘Terra Nova’ will be released remains a surprise. What is already known is that it will be a double album. ‘Sabotage’, the second single, was released on 20 June. This song is about feelings of fear and doubt that sometimes make life quite difficult. The lead character is caught in his struggle to deal with this. He wants to break his old patterns and is looking for a new beginning. The intro is catchy and powerful, both in terms of music and vocals. You can hear the main character’s “struggle” reflected in Matt Young’s voice.
This delicious prog contains many layers. Partly due to the guest appearance of Nic Weaver, his contribution includes a full brass section. Pieter Beemsterboer’s keyboards are also pleasantly abundant. There are plenty of changes and details in the music, including cool bass grooves. The beautiful turn to violin playing by Irina Markevich surprises. Moyano El Buffalo drums in service of the song. Last but not least, is the fabulous, sometimes super fast guitar playing of Mark Bogert. The end of ‘Sabotage’ is sudden. All this makes me curious about the double album ‘Terra Nova’, which Hekz is going to release independently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
