TNNE (The No Name Experience) is a prog band from Luxembourg. Their third album is called ‘Life 3.0,’ which is based on the novel ‘Otherland’ by Tad Williams, set in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The extended instrumental intro of ‘The Net’ is calm. The first sentences are spoken slowly through which the plot is briefly explained. The instrumental piece that follows has rocking elements. The last sentences of this opening track are also spoken (by Roby Rinaldetti). If you listen carefully, you can hear where the transition to the epic ‘Dreaming Awake’ is. The pleasant instrumental piece has lovely guitar playing and a fine piece of drumming. Now the lyrics are sung. Patrick Kiefer has quite a high range, the color of his voice is a bit lighter. The sung words are mainly in the lighter played parts, so vocals and music stay in balance. The turns are mainly in the instrumental parts, most of them quite gradual. At certain moments the keys have an important part. The bass forms a fine foundation, and at times also provides nice details. The music gets a bit darker and the tempo is a bit faster. The pleasant instrumental piece has lovely guitar playing and great drumming. Now the lyrics are sung. Patrick Kiefer has quite a high range, the color of his voice is a bit lighter. The sung words are mainly in the lighter played parts, so vocals and music stay in balance. The turns are mainly in the instrumental parts, most of them quite gradual. At certain moments the keys have an important part. The bass forms a fine foundation, and at times also provides nice details. The music gets a bit darker and the tempo is pretty fast. A touch of hecticness is added, and the vocals go against each other for a while. Then a calmer (vocal) part follows. Right after this, you hear the change to ‘No Man’s Land’ The music is mysterious, the words are sung softly, almost whispered. The division between vocal and instrumental parts remains good. Moreover, both the variety and the mix of styles and instruments remain captivating. Each song is well constructed. The songs mostly follow each other nonstop. Regularly the (electronic) sound of the keys is quite high, this forms a good contrast with the lower (bass) tones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Especially in the first part of ‘Behind the Mirror’ you can hear a surprising mix of styles, instruments and details. Also in ‘Heavenly Visions’ various styles\/influences are played one after the other and sometimes almost mixed together. But everything continues to form a good whole.
The calm, compelling ‘Harvest’ has good details in the percussion. This instrumental song slowly dies out, it\u2019s obvious that the album ends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you barely listen to the lyrics, you probably don’t realize that this is a concept album. It doesn’t really feel like a “visual” story, but the songs do fit together in terms of style. The lyric booklet contains nice pictures that match the lyrics. A pity that the background sometimes makes them hard to read. If you are not familiar with the novel, the lyrics are not easy to fathom. But you don’t have to know or understand the story to appreciate the album. Because the music is complex and very diverse: there are jazz elements and 80\u2019s influences, among others. There is some quieter music but there are also heavier riffs.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
