destructive power of lies, and the search for truth. The Covid lockdown (from 2020-2021) was not easy, not at all; this fourth album is about that era.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The spoken sampling at the start of &#8216;The Age of Misinformation&#8217; makes the concept immediately clear. The rocking music keeps the spoken phrases from dominating. Aaron has a driven way of singing. There is pleasant keyboard playing and wonderful guitar playing. Moreover, there are plenty of variations in rhythm and melody. The (mostly) uplifting nature keeps everything from being depressing. Certain parts are tightly played, and so is the end of this opening track. &#8216;L.I.A.R.&#8217; is somewhat calmer in nature. The layers in vocals and music are well spread throughout the headphones. There is a small section of a cappella vocals and a rest, followed by a rocking instrumental section. At times there seems to be frustration on Aaron&#8217;s voice, this forms a good match with the words he sings. In addition, vocals and music are balanced. During the calmer last part, the wordless background vocals meld nicely with the music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the start of &#8216;Bet on Zero&#8217; you can hear the brass band, soon there are unexpected turns. Again Aaron sings convincingly, when he sings louder, the music joins in. The percussion has a surprising rhythm at times, the volume constantly matching the music. A quiet instrumental section forms a nice melange with the subdued trumpet playing. The saxophone is partly in a section with a bit more tempo. A lot happens: you hear all kinds of things one after another, sometimes even mixed together, yet it forms a whole. This seems to end softly, but a varied drum solo follows. Several instruments join in, the vocals are soft at first, followed by a few vocal outbursts. After an instrumental (brass) piece, this epic ends somewhat unexpectedly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is a lot of variation in the songs as much instrumental as vocal. The &#8221; bitter&#8221; sound in Aaron&#8217;s voice appears in several songs, including &#8216;Dark Secrets&#8217;. But &#8216;Rise&#8217; is a bit friendlier in sound, the voices are well stacked. The combination or alternation of keyboards and guitar\/guitars is fine. The warmth guitar sounds, the percussion and the calm way of singing give &#8216;The Color of Flight&#8217; a positive sound. There are nice details in the music, the string instruments fit the sweet atmosphere nicely. The feel-good intro of &#8216;M\u00e1laga&#8217; ties in nicely with this. Of course, Aaron continues to sing with his own remarkable vocal color, but the angry tone is gone. Rhythm and melody are lighter in sound, so vocals and music remain balanced. This song ends with a fade out. &#8216;Weight of the World&#8217; has a pleasantly slow start. Slowly but surely, tempo and volume increase a bit. A touch of rock is added in the guitar playing, after which this final song ends with a quiet flow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both frustration and optimism can be heard, these changes are wonderful to hear. But the frustration does make it a little less accessible. Because you have to have gusto to listen to this concept and frustration. &#8216;The Age of Misinformation&#8217; is different from 2018&#8217;s &#8216;If all goes wrong&#8217; not only because of this, because the lineup has changed quite a bit. Still, you will definitely recognize the style, but especially Aaron&#8217;s voice. vernietigende kracht van leugens, en het zoeken naar de waarheid. De Covid lockdown (van 2020-2021) was niet bepaald makkelijk, dit vierde album gaat over dat tijdperk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>De gesproken sampling aan de start van \u2018The Age of Misinformation\u2019 maakt het concept meteen duidelijk. De rockende muziek zorgt ervoor dat de gesproken zinnen niet overheersen. Aaron heeft een gedreven manier van zingen. Er is aangenaam veel toetsenwerk en heerlijk gitaarspel. Bovendien zijn er volop variaties in ritme en melodie. Door het (overwegend) opzwepende karakter is het geheel niet deprimerend. Bepaalde delen zijn strak gespeeld, en dat geldt ook voor het einde van dit openingsnummer. \u2018L.I.A.R.\u2019 is wat rustiger van opzet. De laagjes in zang en muziek zijn goed verdeeld over de koptelefoon. Er is een klein stukje a capella zang en een rust, gevolgd door een rockend instrumentaal deel. Met vlagen lijkt er frustratie op de stem van Aaron te zitten, dit vormt een goed match met de woorden die hij zingt. Daarnaast zijn zang en muziek in balans. Tijdens het rustiger laatste stukje smelt de woordeloze achtergrondzang mooi samen met de muziek.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aan de start van \u2018Bet on Zero\u2019 hoor je de brass band, al snel zijn er onverwachte wendingen. Weer zingt Aaron overtuigend, als hij luider zingt, gaat de muziek er in mee. De percussie heeft met vlagen een verrassend ritme, het volume past constant bij de muziek. Een rustig instrumentaal deel vormt een mooie melange met het ingetogen trompetspel. De saxofoon zit deels in een deel met wat meer tempo. Er gebeurt veel: je hoort van alles na elkaar, soms zelfs door elkaar, toch vormt het een geheel. Dit lijkt zacht te eindigen, maar er volgt een gevarieerde drumsolo. Er komen meerdere instrumenten bij, de zang is eerst zacht, gevolgd door een paar vocale uithalen. Na een instrumentaal (brass) stukje eindigt deze epic vrij onverwacht.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Er is veel variatie in de nummers zoveel instrumentaal als vocaal. De \u201cverbeten\u201d klank in Aarons stem komt in meerdere nummers terug, zo ook in \u2018Dark Secrets\u2019. Maar \u2018Rise\u2019 is iets vriendelijker van klank, de stemmen zijn goed gestapeld. De combinatie dan wel afwisseling van keyboards-en gitaar\/gitaren is prima. De warmte gitaarklanken, de percussie en de kalme manier van zingen geven \u2018The Color of Flight\u2018 een positive klank. Er zijn leuke details in de muziek, de strijkinstrumenten passen mooi bij de zoete sfeer. Het feel-good intro van \u2018M\u00e1laga\u2019 sluit hier mooi bij aan. Natuurlijk blijft Aaron zingen met zijn eigen, markante stemkleur, maar de boze toon is weg. Ritme en melodie zijn lichter van klank, zang en muziek blijven dus in balans. Dit nummer eindigt met een fade out. \u2018Weight of the World\u2019 heeft een aangenaam langzame start. Langzaam maar zeker nemen tempo en volume wat toe. In het gitaarspel wordt een vleugje rock toegevoegd, waarna dit laatste nummer met een rustige flow eindigt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Er is zowel frustratie als optimisme te horen, die veranderingen zijn mooi om te horen. Maar door de frustratie is het wel wat minder toegankelijk.
