There are still concerts that had been postponed by Corona. This was also true of Mostly Autumn’s concert in the Cacaofabriek (Helmond, the Netherlands), this was made up on Saturday, Sept. 17. Before the doors to the venue opened, a number of fans were already waiting. They chose their places at the front and took pictures of the beamer showing the cover of the album ‘Graveyard Star’. When the lights dimmed, the venue had become pleasantly crowded. The band members appeared in the dark. The lights on stage turned on the moment front woman Olivia Sparnenn-Josh appeared. She always looks gorgeous, and this evening was no different. First the band played a very familiar song, ‘Tomorrow dies’. The music was a little too loud during the uptempo parts compared to the vocals. And that while Olivia has a lot of power on her voice. But during the subdued part you could hear her clear voice well, and she sang as always: flawlessly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Graveyard Star<\/strong>
The album cover of ‘Graveyard Star’ was on display on the beamer for a reason. From this album, ‘Spirit of mankind’ was played. The limited edition of this album had long been sold out. Others had the “regular edition,” so many fans already knew this song.
Bryan Josh had the lead vocals in ‘The spirit of autumn past’. Olivia did the backing vocals. Keyboardist Angela Gordon played a part on her flute here. This lady can also sing, which she showed in ‘The last climb’. Moreover, she also played a very nice part on her flute here. Bryan also sang a part, in addition he showed compelling guitar playing. He was one with the music. As the fans listened breathlessly, the music came out extra well.
Chris Johnson, who played both acoustic and electric guitar, switched guitars during several songs. Angela, in addition to playing keyboard and flute, occasionally played the piccolo. The drumhead mirrored; as a result, the glitter on Oliva’s skirt in particular regularly reflected in the sheet. Her beautiful performance always felt very natural.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Back in these arms<\/strong>
Mostly Autumn has been around for more than 25 years. As a result, the setlist is always varied. In the older ‘Gaze’, Chris touched fans’ hearts with his beautiful high-pitched voice. ‘Endless war’ started quietly, again Henry Rogers drummed beautifully gently. In the uptempo parts he continued to play with dynamics, the differences in pitch of the drums was easy to hear.
Keyboardist Iain Jennings provided the subdued start to ‘Back in these arms’ . Then Henry played a rousing beat, rhythm and melody constantly forming a unit. This was one of the songs in which Angela alternated keyboard playing with piccolo. Olivia and Bryan sang together, Bryan singing a few words more powerfully. After encouragement from Olivia, the audience clapped along to the beat. ‘Mother Nature’ is one of the fans’ favourites. The start was very calm, the tempo and volume changes played well. Bassist Andy Smith plays usually a little at the back of the stage. During uptempo parts, he occasionally seeks out the middle of the stage, which he did now. There were a few tiny slips in this first set, that’s okay, it’s live after all. They played, as always, with passion, and that’s what counts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Transylvania, Pt. 1 – The Count Demands It<\/strong>
After the break, Henry started with the drum intro to ‘In for the bite’ from the “vampire” album ‘Transylvania, Pt. 1 – The Count Demands It’ by Josh & Co. The album is indeed Bryan’s, so it fit right in.
Bryan had a technical problem that resulted in ‘Skin of a mankind’ being stopped. He made a joke about it, and with the help of the roadie, the band was able to restart this song. But it still wasn’t fixed, Bryan apologized, but the fans could laugh about it. The show must go on, and it succeeded after the third attempt. It hadn’t made the band members nervous, as this upbeat song was sung and played very well. Iain was half-hidden behind his keyboards, but you could tell he was almost dancing. As people sang and\/or clapped along, the atmosphere became more and more upbeat, which stayed that way for several songs. That changed when the keyboard intro to ‘Silver glass’ sounded. This was one of the songs the fans were hoping for. Most of them had heard Chris perform this song many times before. But his high-pitched vocals are so special that many had goosebumps again. People listened breathlessly to this breathtaking version.<\/p>\n\n\n

White rainbow<\/strong>
‘Heart, body and soul’ started with the inspiring vocals of Olivia and the keys of Iain.Angela also sang a part, the blend of voices was very good. Bryan added subtle guitar playing. Henry initially used sticks with soft ends, gently “tinkling” the cymbals. This was followed by a few tempo and volume changes. ‘White rainbow’ is the title track of the 2019 album. This complex track also features some sampling. Olivia’s blockflute was a little too soft compared to the whole thing. In the uptempo instrumental part, not only Olivia (with tambourine) danced, but Bryan, Chris and Andy moved along fully to the beat of the music. If you don’t know the song, you might think at some change that it’s a different song. But nothing could be further from the truth, as this is an epic of some 20 minutes. And it has numerous twists and turns, almost all of which went perfectly. You would almost forget that the images on the beamer matched the lyrics beautifully.
The encore started with ‘Heroes Never Die’, this was received by cheering. Bryan began with guitar and vocals. Of course the singing together with Olivia was wonderful again. The band received considerable applause after this song. When the first notes of ‘Forever and beyond’ were sung and played, it immediately went quiet. The moment tempo and volume increased, people clapped along. The closing applause lasted a long time, and rightfully so. The first set lasted nearly 1 hour, this second nearly 1.5 hours. So Mostly Autumn treated fans to a concert that lasted a total of nearly 2.5 hours. And everyone enjoyed that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Er zijn nog steeds concerten die door Corona waren uitgesteld. Dat gold ook voor het concert van Mostly Autumn in de Cacaofabriek (Helmond), dit werd ingehaald op zaterdag 17 september. Voordat de deuren van de zaal open gingen, stond er al een aantal fans te wachten. Zij kozen hun plaatsje vooraan en maakten foto\u2019s van de beamer waarop de cover van het album \u2018Graveyard Star\u2019 te zien was. Toen de lichten doofden, was het gezellig druk geworden in de zaal. De bandleden kwamen in het donker op. De lichten op het podium gingen aan op het moment dat frontvrouw Olivia Sparnenn-Josh verscheen. Ze ziet er altijd prachtig uit, en dat was op deze avond niet anders. Als eerste speelde de band een heel bekend nummer: \u2018Tomorrow dies\u2019. De muziek was tijdens de uptempo delen iets te luid ten opzichte van de zang. En dat terwijl Olivia een behoorlijke power op haar stem heeft. Maar tijdens het ingetogen gespeelde deel hoorde je haar heldere stem goed, en ze zong zoals altijd: loepzuiver.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Graveyard Star<\/strong>
Het albumcover van \u2018Graveyard Star\u2019 was niet voor niets te zien op de beamer. Van dit album werd \u2018Spirit of mankind\u2019 gespeeld. De limited edition van dit album was al lang uitverkocht. Anderen hadden de \u201cgewone editie\u201d, veel fans kende dit nummer dus al.
Bryan Josh had de leadzang in \u2018The spirit of autumn past\u2019. Olivia deed de backing vocals. Toetsenist Angela Gordon speelde hier een deel op haar dwarsfluit. Deze dame kan ook zingen, dat liet ze horen in \u2018The last climb\u2019. Bovendien speelde ze ook hier een hele mooie partij op haar dwarsfluit. Ook Bryan zong een deel, daarnaast liet hij meeslepend gitaarspel horen. Hij was \u00e9\u00e9n met de muziek. Doordat de fans ademloos luisterden kwam de muziek extra goed tot zijn recht.
Chris Johnson, die zowel akoestisch als elektrisch gitaar speelde, wisselde tijdens diverse keren nummers van gitaar. Angela speelde behalve keyboard en dwarsfluit ook af en toe op de piccolo. Het drumvel spiegelde, hierdoor reflecteerde vooral de glitters op de rok van Oliva regelmatig in het vel. Haar mooie performance voelt altijd heel natuurlijk aan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Back in these arms<\/strong>
Mostly Autumn bestaat al meer dan 25 jaar. Hierdoor is de setlist altijd gevarieerd.
In het oudere \u2018Gaze\u2019 raakte Chris met zijn prachtige hoge stem de harten van de fans. \u2018Endless war\u2019 begon rustig, ook hier drumde Henry Rogers mooi zacht. In de uptempo delen bleef hij met dynamiek spelen, de verschillen in toonhoogte van de drums was goed te horen.
Toetsenist Iain Jennings zorgde voor de ingetogen start van \u2018Back in these arms\u2019 . Vervolgens speelde Henry een opzwepende beat, ritme en melodie vormde constant een eenheid. Dit was \u00e9\u00e9n van de nummers waarin Angela keyboard afwisselde met piccolo. Olivia en Bryan zongen samen, Bryan zong enkele woorden krachtiger. Na aanmoediging van Olivia klapte het publiek mee in de maat. \u2018Mother Nature\u2019 is \u00e9\u00e9n van de favorieten van de fans. De start was heel kalm, de tempo en volumewisselingen werden goed gespeeld. Bassist Andy Smith staat meestal een beetje achteraan op het podium. Tijdens uptempo delen zoekt hij af en toe het midden van het podium op, dat deed hij nu ook. Er zaten een paar kleine foutjes in deze eerste set, dat mag, het is immers live. Er werd, net zoals altijd, met passie gespeeld, en dat is wat telt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Transylvania, Pt. 1 – The Count Demands It<\/strong>
Na de pauze startte Henry met het drumintro van \u2018In for the bite\u2019 van het \u201cvampier\u201d album \u2018Transylvania, Pt. 1 – The Count Demands It\u2019 van Josh & Co. Het album is inderdaad van Bryan, dus het paste prima in het geheel.
Bryan had een technisch probleempje waardoor \u2018Skin of een mankind\u2019 werd gestopt. Hij maakte er een grapje over en met hulp van de roadie kon de band dit nummer nogmaals opstarten. Maar het was nog niet verholpen, Bryan verontschuldigde zich, maar de fans konden er wel om lachen. The show must go on, en dat lukte na de derde poging. De bandleden waren er niet zenuwachtig door geworden, want dit vrolijke nummer werd zeer goed gezongen en gespeeld. Iain stond half verstopt achter zijn keyboards, maar je kon wel zien dat hij bijna stond te dansen. Doordat men meezong en\/of klapte werd de sfeer alsmaar vrolijker, dat bleef een aantal nummers zo. Dat veranderde toen het keyboard intro van \u2018Silver glass\u2019 klonk. Dit was \u00e9\u00e9n van de nummers waarop de fans hoopte. De meeste hadden Chris dit al veel vaker horen zingen. Maar zijn hoge zang is zo bijzonder dat menigeen weer kippenvel had. Men luisterde ademloos toe naar deze adembenemende versie.<\/p>\n\n\n

White rainbow<\/strong>
\u2018Heart, body and soul\u2019 startte met de bezielende zang van Olivia en de toetsen van Iain. Angela zong ook een deel, de blend van de stemmen was zeer goed. Bryan voegde subtiel gitaarpel toe. Henry gebruikte in eerste instantie stokken met zachte uiteinden, waarmee hij de cimbalen zacht liet \u201crinkelen\u201d. Daarna volgden er een paar tempo-en volumewisselingen. \u2018White rainbow\u2019 is de titeltrack van het album uit 2019.. Dit complexe nummer bevat ook wat sampling. De blokfluit van Olivia was iets te zacht ten opzichte van het geheel. In het uptempo instrumentale stuk danste niet alleen Olivia (met tamboerijn), maar Bryan, Chris en Andy bewogen volop mee in de maat van de muziek. Als je het nummer niet kent, zou je bij een bepaalde verandering kunnen denken dat het een ander nummer is. Maar niets is minder waar, want dit is een epic van zo\u2019n 20 minuten. En ze heeft talloze wendingen, die bijna allemaal perfect verliepen. Je zou bijna vergeten dat de beelden op de beamer mooi bij de songtekst aansloten.
De toegift startte met \u2018Heroes never die\u2019, dit werd met gejuich ontvangen. Bryan begon met gitaar en zang. Natuurlijk verliep de samenzang met Olivia weer fantastisch. De band kreeg na dit nummer een flink applaus. Toen de eerste tonen van \u2018Forever and beyond\u2019 gezongen en gespeeld werden, werd het meteen stil. Op het moment dat tempo en volume toenamen, klapte men mee. Het slotapplaus hield lang aan, en terecht. De eerste set duurde bijna 1 uur, deze tweede bijna 1,5 uur. Mostly Autumn trakteerde de fans dus op een concert van in totaal bijna 2,5 uur. En daar heeft iedereen van genoten.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
