Their previous studio album, &#8216;Scattered Shards&#8217;, was released in 2018. On their new album &#8216;Still there&#8217; from, all the tracks flow into each other non-stop. The concept is about a young woman, she had written on the inside walls of a lookout point, &#8220;Still alive, still there&#8221;. A few days later she committed suicide here. The album is based on this tragic event, but the story is fictional. A young English woman follows her dreams: for love she moves to Berlin. But the relationship breaks down and a depression follows. With suicidal thoughts, the goes to the tourist lookout. At the top she enjoys the view, beautiful memories come up, and she decides to go down again. On her way back, she writes, &#8220;Still there.&#8221; Her inner darkness returning, she goes back to the tower. Despite the crowds, no one notices her\u2026. she decides not to go down the steps\u2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The lyrics of &#8216;126 Steps&#8217; are spoken, the male voice perhaps causing confusion because the story is about a woman. After the quiet start of &#8216;Leaving This Land&#8217;, a touch of rock comes in. Vocals and music form a unit, both are slow. There are several (subtle) twists and turns. In &#8216;A Plan You Can&#8217;t Resist&#8217; lighter elements are well interspersed with rock. The &#8220;string instruments&#8221; create a sober atmosphere. The vocals sound almost optimistic, vocals and music remain in harmony. After the melancholic &#8216;Winter&#8217;s End On Water&#8217; follows &#8216;Dear Mother&#8217; in which the woman writes a letter to her mother. For the first time you hear the voice of Roxy Furcht. Sampling of voices at the end of &#8216;Planned Obsolescence&#8217; forms the transition to &#8216;Orange Popsicle Sky&#8217;. The beautiful stacked, wordless vocals are a bit sweet, but it suits the woman&#8217;s beautiful memories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In &#8216;Shadows&#8217;, Yenz&#8217;s voice gets intense, the line, &#8220;Dear mother, I just lost the will to live&#8221; touches me. Also in &#8216;A Scream From The Wall&#8217;, parts of the (background) vocals are sung intensely. A little later, confidence is heard in the words &#8220;Still there&#8221;. Vocals and music of &#8216;These Stairs&#8217; are initially less heartfelt than you might expect with the touching lyrics. The main character sounds quite relaxed, as if the decision is not an effort. Again, the cymbals are played beautifully gently. The instrumental piece is cool. During whispered words, the emotion changes. Although you don&#8217;t hear fear or sadness in &#8216;The Unquiet Window&#8217; in vocals and music, some parts of the lyrics do make you think. Because you hear Roxy and Yenz in turns, you might think there are two people above. The music becomes a bit more chaotic at first, then integrative and moving. It gives me goosebumps, especially with Roxy&#8217;s words, &#8220;Just one small step\u2026&#8221;. This is complemented by long lasting tones, the music stays slow for a while. &#8216;Still There&#8217; starts slowly, the first sentences are sung emotionally. In the music there is again a good contrast between high and low tones. The guitar playing becomes compelling. Finally, a calm and dreamy instrumental piece.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is almost impossible to find the right emotional balance for this album.<br>The woman&#8217;s inner struggles are discussed in a limited way. So the whole thing is not depressing, therefore it is not difficult to listen to. On the other hand, there could have been a little more depth in it at times. Some lyrics might be a little harder to understand. Hun vorige studio album, \u2018Scattered Shards\u2019, werd in 2018 uitgebracht. Op hun nieuwe album \u2018Still there\u2019 uit lopen alle tracks non-stop in elkaar over. Het concept gaat over een jonge vrouw, zij had op de binnenmuren van een uitkijkpunt geschreven: \u201cStill alive, still there\u201d. Een paar dagen later pleegde ze hier zelfmoord. Het album is gebaseerd op deze tragische gebeurtenis, maar het verhaal is fictief. Een jonge Engelse vrouw volgt haar dromen: voor de liefde verhuist ze naar Berlijn. Maar de relatie loopt stuk en een depressie volgt. Met su\u00efcidale gedachten gaat de naar de toeristische uitkijkpost. Boven geniet ze van het uitzicht, er komen mooie herinneringen boven, en ze besluit weer naar beneden te gaan. Op haar terugweg schrijft ze: \u201cStill there\u201d. Haar innerlijke duisternis keert terug, ze gaat weer naar de toren. Ondanks de drukte merkt niemand haar op\u2026 ze besluit om niet via de trappen naar beneden te gaan..<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">De tekst van \u2018126 Steps\u2019 wordt gesproken, de mannenstem zorgt misschien voor verwarring omdat het verhaal over een vrouw gaat. Na de rustige start van \u2018Leaving This Land\u2019 komt er een vleugje rock bij. Zang en muziek vormen een eenheid, beide zijn langzaam. Er zijn diverse (subtiele) wendingen. In \u2018A Plan You Can\u2019t Resist\u2019 worden lichtere elementen goed afgewisseld met rock. De \u201cstrijkinstrumenten\u201d zorgen voor een sobere sfeer. De zang klinkt bijna optimistisch, zang en muziek blijven in harmonie. Na het melancholische \u2018Winter\u2019s End On Water\u2019 volgt \u2018Dear Mother\u2019 waarin de vrouw een brief schrijft naar haar moeder. Voor het eerst hoor je de stem van\u2028Roxy Furcht. Sampling van stemmen aan het eind van \u2018Planned Obsolescence\u2019 vormt de overgang naar \u2018Orange Popsicle Sky\u2019. De mooie gestapelde, woordeloze zang is een beetje zoet, maar het past bij de mooie herinneringen van de vrouw.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In \u2018Shadows\u2019, wordt de stem van Yenz intens, de zin: \u201cDear mother, I just lost the will to live\u201d raakt me. Ook in \u2018A Scream From The Wall\u2019 zijn delen van de (achtergrond) zang intens gezongen. Even later klinkt er vertrouwen in de woorden \u201cStill there\u201d. Zang en muziek van \u2018These Stairs\u2019 zijn in eerste instantie minder diepgaand dan je zou verwachten bij de aangrijpende tekst. De hoofdpersoon klinkt best relaxed, alsof het besluit geen moeite kost. Weer zijn de cimbalen mooi zacht bespeeld. Het instrumentale stuk is gaaf. Tijdens fluisterende woorden verandert de emotie. Hoewel je in \u2018The Unquiet Window\u2019 geen angst of verdriet hoort in zang en muziek, zetten sommige delen van de tekst je wel aan het denken. Omdat je afwisselend Roxy en Yenz hoort, zou je kunnen denken dat er twee personen boven staan. De muziek wordt eerst wat chaotischer, dan integer en aangrijpend. Het bezorgt me kippenvel, vooral door de woorden van Roxy: \u201cJust one small step\u2026\u201d. Dit wordt aangevuld met langaanhoudende tonen, de muziek blijft een tijdje langzaam. \u2018Still There\u2019 start langzaam, de eerste zinnen worden emotioneel gezongen. In de muziek is er weer een goed contrast tussen hoge en lage tonen. Het gitaarspel wordt meeslepend. Tot slot een kalm en dromerig instrumentaal stuk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Het is bijna onmogelijk om de juiste emotionele balans te vinden voor dit album.<br>De innerlijke worsteling van de vrouw komt beperkt aan bod. Het geheel is dus niet deprimerend, daarom is het niet moeilijk om naar te luisteren. Aan de andere kant, had er af en toe wat meer diepgang in mogen zitten. Sommige teksten zijn misschien wat lastiger te begrijpen.
