Arnoldo’s Lizards is a brand new band from Argentina. The band consists of singer Alvare Goco (22 years old) and keyboard player Jack Dimensions (23 years old). They play a mix of prog and art rock and add funk, among other things. ‘Satanic Attack or Divine Punishment’ is their debut album, and it contains all kinds of emotions. The band challenges you to leave your comfort zone to find out who you are.
‘Motherships’ has a special start with sampled voices and laughter. Then follows a catchy rhythm making this a poppy instrumental intro. Alvare has a rather high voice. The whole thing has a sunny atmosphere, and everything is well distributed in the headphones. Secretly there are quite a lot of layers, and there are nice twists. Because of the fast singing in ‘To Fly’, not everything is understood. The drum programming sounds pretty good, but you might just miss some dynamics. The rather unexpected ending feels a bit unnatural. ‘Fake Modesty’ has a mix of piano sounds and vocals at the beginning, supported by a touch of music. The backing vocals are not in sync with the lead vocals, but this gives it an added value. The sound of violin playing is added to the music. The extra power and emotion on the vocals is convincing. This song ends nicely minimal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

‘Injected Blame’ is a bit more classical oriented. This is a duet with Jack, his passionate singing has a Spanish accent. The vocals are stacked in a special way, this song may need to grow a little. It sounds simple, but it is more complicated than it seems. The build-up to the end is beautifully minor. This forms a contrast with ‘Loose Strap’ because here there is more tempo and volume. This song is a nice mix or alternation of funk and prog. There is a summery atmosphere in certain parts, the laughter in the background gives extra cheerfulness. The fade out could have been a bit slower.
Piano sounds and light classical influences provide a quiet start to ‘Step Wrong \/ Alive’. After a short rest, the music is minimalistic for a while. Then you hear a few seconds of unusual music and a few footsteps. The classical music becomes sombre but intensely emotional. For a moment, the piano playing sounds as if someone is practicing and replaying a piece. For a split second, you hear the sound that can best be described as a cassettetape being rewinding. The piano playing is beautiful but sober. For a moment, only footsteps can be heard, only then Alvare starts singing, accompanied by piano. This special track slowly fades out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

‘Weightless’ is light and airy and has a whole different atmosphere. This is fine prog rock wrapped in a touch of pop.
Because of the album title (Satanic attack or Divine punishment), you would expect heavier elements or greater contrasts in the music. But this choice of Arnoldo’s Lizards feels very natural. Moreover, the music suits Alvare’s voice. Her beautiful voice will certainly grow, allowing her to show more depth. The band will also continue to develop in terms of structure. Not all tracks feel completely finished, there may be some more modelling and\/or fine-tuning to do. The stacked vocals are a very good addition. The balance between (bass)guitar and keyboards is good, also the melange between the different sounds of the keyboards is fine. The basis is there and with ‘Satanic Attack or Divine Punishment’ they have made a good start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
