The Argentine band Inner Stream has quite recently signed a contract with Frontiers Music Srl. This melodic metal band adds symphonic metal and electronic to their powerful melodies. Composer\/singer Ines Vera-Ortiz founded Inner Stream as a project in 2008. In the meantime, she mainly worked for other (power) metal bands. In 2017 she started collaborating with keyboardist Guillermo de Medio, and Inner Stream really took off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

‘With ‘Massive Drain’ the opening, both instrumentally and vocally is quite calm, then the metal comes in. This is mixed with poppy influences and now and then some light classical elements. Ines Vera has a warm, powerful voice. Both instrumentally and vocally there are some nice details added. The end is quite unexpected. The beginning of ‘Hunt You’ has nice sounds and distorted vocals. In the background, light classical influences are mixed with the metal. The ratio between rhythm and melody is fine. There are enough details in the music, but not much variation. This might make it harder to become one with the music. It is accessible, though, and when played live, it will certainly give you a good vibe.
Also in the songs that follow, the division in quantity between metal, classical elements and electronic is very good. It is a pity that the contrasts between light and heavy are not better highlighted. Also the differences in volume between the heavier and\/or exhilarating pieces and the subdued parts could have been a bit bigger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

‘Stain The Sea’ has an electronic start with matching, distorted vocals. Quite soon follows the turn to metal where keyboard sounds are subtly sprinkled through. The whole thing remains, also because of the rhythm section, pleasantly exhilarating. This title track has a fine blend of metal and electronic sounds and great guitar skills. ‘The Bridge’ is a fine electronic song, also here the metal and symphonic influences remain present. The nice beat in ‘Last Drink’ has a cheerful effect and will certainly increase the atmosphere when played live. After a deliciously heavier part, the end is rather abrupt. Also in ‘Real’ the sound is well distributed through the headphones. The (recurring) details are sometimes quite far in the background. Again Ines Vera presents her vocal qualities, in a quietly played part, her voice comes out extra well. If this had lasted a bit longer, I would have been touched. This last song also has a tight ending.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These eleven songs last just under forty minutes. They have an accessible structure, which suits the melodic style. Every song on ‘Stain The Sea’ is good, although there were not many major surprises. This is because songs often have a quiet start and pretty soon they head towards the metal. A number of songs end more or less in the same sudden style. But ‘Drown me’ has a nice subdued outro. The way the symphonic sounds are processed in the songs could have been more varied. Some of the subdued parts are just too short to really come in, while they are close. The intensity that is lacking now is because the band seems to be too eager to show off their skills. While a vocal and instrumental depth and\/or emotion sometimes comes to life better when one takes more time to convey it to the listener. The whole is distributed with care over the headphones. The instruments among themselves are in balance, and (the stacked) vocals and music are constantly in harmony. Moreover, the melodies are nicely constructed, so Inner Stream is definitely a band to keep an eye on!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
