The first lockdown in England also had positives effects. Vocalist Damien Child (ex ESP Project) approached the Progressive Gears label asking if they knew a bandmate for him. This is how Damien got in touch with Gary Jevon (ex-This Winter Machine). Despite the distance (London- Yorkshire) there was an instant musical click, soon there was enough material for an album. Drummer Greg Pringle (a.o. ESP project, Roger Daltrey) completed the line-up of prog rock band.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

‘Welcome To The Show’ starts out very soft, slowly the electronic sounds get louder. The rock is added in a cool way. It’s not just rock, there are also some metal influences. The color of Damien’s voice is a little less powerful than you might expect for this music. Still, the combination of vocals and music is good. Instrumental parts and vocal pieces alternate. When the music calms down through the piano sounds, the warmth on Damien’s voice comes out well. There are several twists including a tightly played piece, this is blended well with the melody. The rock-metal returns just before the end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The intro of ‘You Against The World’ is classically based, light rocking elements are added. The three band members have not yet seen each other in real life, and therefore have not played live as a band. You can hear from the vibe of this rousing song that this (if it is ever played live) will be an atmospheric one. The instrumental piece has unusual sounds. The returning classical elements make it clear that this is build up to the end of this song.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The mellow vocals in ‘In The Deep End’ are in harmony with the subdued music. A bass groove, and (acoustic guitar playing) create austere atmosphere. Yet this flow is pleasant, and remains throughout the song. Although there are no major changes, this epic is over before you know it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The epic ‘Goldst*R’ has a very gentle start. Music and special sounds run back and forth in the headphones. It remains mysterious until the tempo in the music increases. The vocals are quite slowly, and the music follows the pace. Various twists and turns flow seamlessly into another. The change to light screaming guitar play is gradual, but beautiful. The same goes for the quiet piece that follows.
A few sentences sound distorted, but that is allowed here. After all, this is a ghost story that evokes images of the writers M.R James and Lovecraft. An intense sung and played section is followed by acoustic guitar playing. After an unusual change, the atmosphere becomes macabre. Heavy and light elements are mixed together, but the harmony is preserved. The acoustic guitar playing returns, first with the clear vocals. Then with some distorted words. In a subtle way, there are contrasts in vocals and music, but everything remains in balance. The end of this last song is compelling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The more forte played parts give a dingy sound on the cymbals. During the smaller parts played, the sound of the cymbals is nice and clear. In addition, Greg Pringle does a great job of showing the differences in tone between his drums. There is a nice interplay and\/or alternation between electric and acoustic guitar playing by Gary Jevon. There is nice playing with the division in the headphones. Damien has a nice clear voice with a fairly high range. On ‘Catalyst*R‘ <\/em>you can hear electronics, light classical influences, jazz and metal. With this, this threesome has made a good debut album, and are already working on a follow-up. With ‘Catalyst*R’, the prog world has a new great prog band.
