De 1,5 m en de mondkapjesplicht vervallen als men een negatieve Coronatest kan laten zien, of een vaccinatiebewijs heeft. Op zaterdag 26 juni profiteerden de bezoekers van De Bosuil als \u00e9\u00e9n van de eersten van deze versoepelde regels. Zowel de bezoekers als The BluesBones hadden naar dit concert uitgekeken. Er stonden statafels en barkrukken in de zaal, maar de bezoekers waren vrij om te gaan staan of zitten waar ze wilden. Het was niet enorm druk, zodat men niet hoefde te wennen aan deze \u201cnieuwe\u201d vrijheden. Afgelopen najaar bracht deze Belgische bluesband hun live album \u2018Live on stage uit\u2019. De release tour kon door Corona niet doorgaan. Ook mocht de band niet repeteren, zodoende stond de band eigenlijk 16 maanden zo goed als stil. Without any show elements, The BluesBones came on stage, after a brief welcome from singer Nico De Cock, the band started with ‘Find my way out’. Nico has his own way of performing, he played “air organ” with his right hand. Edwin Risbourg showed off his skills on the Hammond, which was beautifully spotlighted. During the instrumental piece, guitarist Stef Paglia drew attention. The performance of the men during this first number was perhaps still a little modest, but instrumentally and vocally it was as if there had been no long break from the stage. After this song Nico said: “That’s gratifying, isn’t it?
Geert Boeckx started with a solid bass groove for ‘The End’. It was clear to see that the men were enjoying the show, there was a big smile on their faces. There was plenty of eye contact between the band members. They had not forgotten how to play together! The subdued instrumental piece was beautiful. You could see that Nico felt the music, it was beautiful to see his emotions. The music first became softer and softer, and then the tempo and volume slowly increased again. The vocal solo at the end was great.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
Before the start of ‘Find me a woman’, Nico told in a pleasant way that he had forgotten to put on his wedding ring. Partly due to drummer Jens Roelandt, this exhilarating song has a very recognizable intro. This was one of the songs where Stef used a bottleneck. The audience was encouraged to clap along, but the rhythm is more complicated than it seems.
At the first subdued tones of ‘Voodoo Guitar’, some visitors were still talking. Stef played with his eyes closed, making guitar faces. The band members used subtle, non-verbal communication. Because of this, the changes in tempo and volume went perfectly, even if it changed in “one punch”. In a strongly played part, Stef went “wild” in a lovely way, this resulted in applause. During the minimalistic part that followed, the audience was quiet as a mouse. This song ended beautifully. There where it was possible, the fun splashed off. During the up-tempo pieces, the performance was more exuberant. In between songs Nico told a few things in a spontaneous way. This increased the atmosphere, and these stories also gave the opportunity for a guitar and\/or bass change. Both, Stef and Edwin, added a nice vocal touch in ‘Romance for Rent’. Here, Edwin made his hands dancing on the keys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The last song before the break was ‘She’s got the devil in her’, which started with a great solo by Stef. The rest joined in as one man. When Nico sang about the telephone, Edwin played a “ringtone” on his Hammond. Stef and Geert were half dancing during the uptempo piece. With a low voice and half talking, half singing, Nico performed his text convincingly. This was enhanced by his facial expressions and the emotion in his voice. His vocal solo at the end was fantastic!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The second song after the break was ‘I’m still your man’. Stef stood facing Edwin, which created a “dialogue” between guitar and Hammond. The men clearly enjoyed themselves and outbraved each other. Tempo and volume were turned up, Stef hit his strings with lightning speed. In ‘Going down’ you could feel the bass tremble, but you could still hear Stef above it. Light and sound were were provided very well by De Bosuil again. The pounding blues song ‘Cruisin’ has a tight and sudden ending, this was also perfectly played. All songs were very well sung and played. You could feel the passion and emotion especially in ‘Sealed Souls’.
During ‘Devil’s bride’ you could hear a slightly rough edge in Nico’s voice. After this the men left the stage, of course we got an encore!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
Only Stef and Nico came back, Nico said with a smile on his face: “We are the only two who wanted to come back”. Stef started with a solo, fans quickly recognized ‘Whiskey drinking woman’. With a naughty look in his eyes, Nico half-talked, half-sang about his “nasty lady”. In the meantime, the other band members “sneaked” onto the stage.
During an instrumental piece you could see Nico enjoying the guitar skills of Stef. Geert and Jens also showed their joy on their faces. Edwin played focused with one hand on his Rhodes, the other on his Hammond. All of a sudden, all of the band members kept quiet\u2026 there was a pause, after which Stef treated the audience on a short solo. All band members created a good buildup to the end. It was absolutely not noticeable that The BluesBones had not been able to perform for 16 months and had barely had time to rehearse. Finally, the audience could enjoy a concert again. Zonder showelementen kwamen The BluesBones op, na een korte begroeting van zanger Nico De Cock begon de band met \u2018Find my way out\u2019. Nico heeft een eigen manier van performen, zo speelde hij ook vanavond \u201cluchtorgel\u201d met zijn rechterhand. Edwin Risbourg liet zijn kunnen op de Hammond horen, waarbij hij mooi in het licht gezet werd. Tijdens het instrumentale stuk trok gitarist Stef Paglia de aandacht. De performance van de mannen was tijdens dit eerste nummer misschien nog een beetje voorzichtig, maar instrumentaal en vocaal was het alsof er geen lange podium break was geweest. Na dit nummer zei Nico: \u201cDat doet deugd he?!\u201d
Geert Boeckx startte met een vette bas groove voor \u2018The End\u2019. Het was duidelijk te zien dat de mannen genoten van het optreden, er verscheen regelmatig een big smile op hun gezicht. Er was volop oogcontact tussen de bandleden. Ze waren het samenspelen niet verleerd! Het ingetogen instrumentale stuk was prachtig. Je zag aan Nico dat hij de muziek voelde, prachtig om zijn emoties te zien. De muziek werd eerst steeds zachter, even later werden tempo en volume weer langzaam opgebouwd. De vocale solo uithaal op het laatst was prima.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
Voor aanvang van \u2018Find me a woman\u2019 vertelde Nico op een leuke manier dat hij zijn trouwring vergeten was om te doen. Mede door drummer Jens Roelandt heeft dit opzwepende nummer een heel herkenbaar intro. Dit was \u00e9\u00e9n van de nummers waarbij Stef een bottleneck gebruikte. Het publiek werd aangemoedigd om mee te klappen, maar het ritme is moeilijker dan dat het lijkt.
Bij de eerste ingetogen tonen van \u2018Voodoo Guitar\u2019 praatten enkele bezoekers nog door. Stef speelde met gesloten ogen, en trok \u201cguitar faces\u201d. De bandleden gebruikten subtiele, non verbale communicatie. Hierdoor verliepen de wisselingen in tempo en volume perfect, zelfs als dit in \u201c\u00e9\u00e9n klap\u201d veranderde. In een sterk gespeeld deel ging Stef \u201clekker los\u201d, dit leverde tussentijds applaus op. Tijdens het minimalistische deel wat hier op volgde, was het publiek muisstil. Zo eindigde ook dit nummer prachtig. Daar waar het kon spatte het plezier ervan af. Tijdens de uptempo stukken was de performance uitbundiger. Tussen de nummers door vertelde Nico op spontane manier het \u00e9\u00e9n en ander. Dit vergrootte de gezelligheid, bovendien gaven deze \u201cvertelsels\u201d de mogelijkheid voor een gitaar- en\/of baswissel. Zowel Stef als Edwin zorgen vocaal voor een mooie toevoeging in \u2018Romance for Rent\u2019. Edwin liet hier zijn handen als het ware dansen op de toetsen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Het laatste nummer voor de pauze was \u2018She\u2019s got the devil in her\u2019, deze begon met een gave solo van Stef. Als \u00e9\u00e9n man viel de rest bij. Toen Nico over telefoon zong, liet Edwin een \u201cringtone\u201d op zijn Hammond horen. Stef en Geert stonden tijdens het uptempo stuk half dansend te spelen. Met lage stem en half pratend, half zingend, bracht Nico zijn tekst overtuigend. Dit werd versterkt door zijn mimiek en de emotie op zijn stem. Zijn vocale solo uithalen op het einde waren fantastisch!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Het tweede nummer na de pauze was \u2018I\u2019m still your man\u2019. Stef ging tegenover Edwin staan, zo ontstond er een \u201cdialoog\u201d tussen gitaar en Hammond. De mannen hadden er duidelijk plezier in, en ze daagden elkaar uit. Tempo en volume werden opgeschroefd, en Stef ging vliegensvlug over de snaren heen. In \u2018Going down\u2019 voelde je de bas lekker trillen, toch hoorde je Stef er nog prima bovenuit. Licht en geluid waren weer prima verzorgd door De Bosuil. Het \u201cstampende\u201d blues nummer \u2018Cruisin\u2019 heeft een strak en plotseling einde, ook dit werd perfect neergezet. Alle nummers waren zeer goed gezongen en gespeeld. Je voelde de passie en emotie vooral in \u2018Sealed Souls\u2019
Tijdens \u2018Devil\u2019s bride\u2019 was er af en toe een licht ruw randje te horen op Nico\u2019s stem. Hierna verlieten de mannen het podium, natuurlijk kregen we een toegift!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
Alleen Stef en Nico kwamen terug, Nico zei met een lach op zijn gezicht: \u201dWe zijn de enige twee die terug wilde komen\u201d. Stef begon met een solo, fans herkende al snel \u2018Whiskey drinking woman\u2019. Met een ondeugende blik in zijn ogen vertelde Nico half pratend, half zingend over zijn \u201cnasty lady\u201d. Ondertussen \u201cslopen\u201d de overige bandleden het podium op.
Tijdens een instrumentaal stuk zag je Nico genieten van het gitaarspel van Stef. Ook bij Geert en Jens zag je het plezier op hun gezicht. Edwin speelde gefocust met \u00e9\u00e9n hand op zijn Rhodes, de andere op zijn Hammond. In \u00e9\u00e9n klap hielden alle bandleden zicht stil.. er was een rust, waarna Stef het publiek trakteerde op een korte solo. Alle bandleden zorgden voor een goede opbouw naar het einde. Het was absoluut niet te merken dat The BluesBones 16 maanden niet konden optreden en nauwelijks hadden kunnen repeteren. Eindelijk hadden de bezoekers weer kunnen genieten van een concert. Om Nico\u2019s woorden te herhalen: \u201dDit deed deugd!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
