The American rock band Evanescence exists 25 years. They won two GRAMMY-Awards and sold more than 23 million albums worldwide. The new album entitled ‘The Bitter Truth’ will be launched on March 26th. This 5th studio album (released via Sony Music) contains 12 songs. A few singles have already been released, including ‘Yeah Right’. This one has more than 1 million views on You Tube. All in all, the band has had over 2 billion(!) views on You Tube.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Synthesis and The Bitter Truth<\/strong>
Fans have been looking forward to ‘The Bitter Truth’ for a long time, because it has been ten years since an album was released with new songs, this one entitled ‘Evanescence’. After that, ‘Synthesis’ (2017) was released. There were only two new songs on it. The other songs were orchestral versions of older ones. ‘Synthesis’ received rave reviews, and rightly so. Because the older songs had undergone a beautiful, sometimes slightly classical, metamorphosis. The expectations for ‘The Bitter Truth’ are high for several reasons. Evanescence has remained true to their characteristic epic sound, so the singles that have been released are well received by the fans. This is not only because of the good tracks, but also because ‘The Bitter Truth’ was produced by Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters and Rush, among others).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Use my voice<\/strong>
‘Use my voice’ is a fantastically constructed song and has beautiful lyrics. Singer Amy Lee says about it: “Everyone deserves to be heard”. Amy’s big inspiration is her grandmother. She is also inspired by all kinds of people, including women who keep going in difficult situations. It is a great honour for her to be an inspiration to others. A while ago, Hollywood was in the spotlight because of the MeToo commotion. So far, the music industry has remained fairly quiet, but for how much longer? Amy hopes that she will give women the courage and strength to come forward if necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Within Temptation and Evanescence<\/strong>
Some of the lyrics are personal, they were like a therapy session for Amy. Once you get close to your feelings, it’s not that difficult to write a personal text in outline. But it is difficult, Amy says, to find exactly the right words, and to sing them with the right emotion.
She tries to get something good out of a bad situation or event.
Of course the Covid pandemic had its impact on the album, there is more passion and more depth in the songs. In addition, due to Covid, last year’s European tour was postponed, it has been moved to September this year. This is a co-headlining tour with Within Temptation, with of course Sharon den Adel as front woman.
During this tour, called ‘World’s Collide Tour’, these two power women will perform on stage together. Of course, there are also performances planned in the Netherlands. But we will have to wait another six months for that. Fortunately, ‘The Bitter Truth’ will be released soon, you can still place a pre-order.
