Lars Granat is a singer and multi-instrumentalist from Sweden. Love’s Bright Light’ is his third solo album. This concept album is about his family and fatherhood. ‘The One’ has a quiet slightly sweet opening. Lars’ singing is a bit nasal, you can feel the intensity with which he sings. The piano sounds turn into a delightful piece of rock, which slowly becomes a bit heavier. The twists and turns are very diverse and generally sudden. The build-up to the end is special. ‘The Girl Who Stopped The World’ has a quiet, instrumental start with repeating tones. Lars sings convincingly, that goes for the small parts as well as the powerfully sung pieces. Not only in the vocals there are considerable differences in volume, there is also a lot of variation in the music. So, the songs are interestingly constructed. The sound is certainly good, but could have been a bit better. The small parts played and the powerfully played and sent parts would have come out even better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The composition of ‘Oh Son’ is very good, but the tinny sound of the cymbals is a bit disturbing. There are several beautiful, unexpected twists and turns. Lars sings both the small sung parts and the vocal lyrics credibly. The spoken sampling is very well divided between right and left in the headphones. There is a lot of pleasant organ playing in ‘Pinnacle’, with gusts it is nice and bombastic. The repeating percussion stops a bit too late, but otherwise this is a cool song. Small pieces of it have common ground with Spock’s Beard. Lars wrote this for his youngest son, who is full of energy, and always shows his emotions clearly. As a father he tries to appreciate this instead of suppressing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In terms of text ‘Words Are But Words’ is a bit ‘sugarly’, but when a man sings this to his wife\/girlfriend, you melt, don’t you? This song also has some rocking elements, so this will be a lovely power ballad like song. ‘Love’s Bright Light’ has a compelling start. Moments later the music is pleasantly bombastic. Also, in this last song there are plenty of changes. Once in a while Lars’ voice is a bit too soft compared to the music. Furthermore, vocals and music are well balanced. The sound runs nicely back and forth in the headphones. Full of conviction he sings his love for his beloved. The chosen words are sometimes a bit clich\u00e9d, but that’s part of it. This well constructed final track has a beautiful, extensive build-up to the end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are quite a lot of details in the songs, moreover they are nicely distributed over the headphones. Some parts are complex and or bombastic, then there is quite a lot coming your way. Other, quiet pieces may be a bit sweet, but that’s allowed with this family theme. Both have nice details in them. The songs sometimes have quite a lot of layers, so it was quite a job for Lars to play and sing everything. This is a successful one-man project!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
