There have been some changes in the line-up. What remained was that the band consists of rock veterans, and that they make catchy &#8216;high-voltage&#8217; rock albums. Their new album is called &#8216;Holy Ground&#8217;, now bassist Glenn Hughes has the lead vocals. Doug Aldrich and David Lowy are the guitarists, and Dane Castronovo is behind the drums. The first few seconds of &#8216;Holy Ground (Shake The Memory)&#8217; are quiet, then it goes full throttle. This is great old school rock. The volume changes and the details give it just that little extra. Of course, you hear plenty of fiery guitar play, but the bass is also pleasantly present. This delicious opening track dies away nicely on the strings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8216;Like No Other (Bassline)&#8217; has an awesome bass groove and great drumming. This was definitely written to be played live. The cool vocals are a bit raw and &#8216;weathered&#8217;. The backing vocals are maybe a bit too clean for a rock song. But that is quickly forgotten by Glenn&#8217;s funky bass playing. The ingredients of the songs that follow are more or less the same: Exciting rock, lots of blasting guitars, a great rhythm section and a nice rock voice. The slightly predictable structure of the songs is broken by nice surprises and or details. These veterans still know how to convince with their delicious uncomplicated hard rock. Every song has a nice surprise, sometimes right at the end like &#8216;Come Alive&#8217;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8216;My Fate&#8217; is one of the slower rock songs. Both the quietly sung parts and the powerfully sung parts are convincing. Vocals and music are constantly in harmony, the whole thing is compelling and exhilarating at the same time. Especially the chorus invites you to sing along loudly. Also, the songs that come after that you sing along pretty soon. They are clearly written to give you a fantastic vibe live. It is already clear that the build-up to the end of the exhilarating &#8216;Saving Grace&#8217; will probably last longer during a concert. Catchy rock is alternated with quieter pieces in &#8216;Unspoken&#8217;. With these changes, The Dead Daisies ensure that every song remains exciting. Moreover, this song ends very nicely. The first part of &#8216;Far Away&#8217; is lovely small, sung and played. In the background you can hear the occasional soft sound of string instruments. Tempo and volume of vocals and music slowly increase. During an instrumental piece, the guitar plays sounds far away at first. A little later you can hear the &#8216;string instruments&#8217; again in the background. The transition to a small played part is very beautiful. The sweet chorus is a bit predictable. But what does that matter? The whole thing is convincingly sung and played. The build-up to the end is swirling, and heavier than you would expect for this song. The end itself extinguishes nicely.<br>&#8216;Holy Ground&#8217; consists of 11 songs that are composed with attention to detail. There are no boring fade-outs, several songs even end in an original way. There are nice elements woven into every song. Okay, &#8217;30 Days In The Hole&#8217; has quite a lot of repeats, but it is catchy.
