The 24-year-old Leah Rye<\/em><\/strong> started singing and playing the piano at the age of six. She was inspired by, among others, Jordan Rakei and Radiohead. Since the age of eighteen she has been seriously involved with music. Two years ago, she graduated from the conservatory. Leah is fascinated by dreams. She likes to imagine herself in a surrealistic, mysterious world, somewhere between fantasy and reality. Every day she tries to catch her elusive thoughts. Her dream world is growing, yet she is constantly looking for something new.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her debut single ‘The Wire’ was released in September 2019 and was played on 3FM and Radio Veronica, among others. This was followed by three independent singles, all in her dreamy style. London has great appeal to Leah<\/em><\/strong>. That’s why she went to London in February, where she toured completely solo, just before the lock down of the world. This inspired her, and so arose ‘Agrypnia<\/em><\/strong>‘, this is the medical name for insomnia. This single was launched on the 30th of October and balances between indie and jazz. ‘Agrypnia<\/em><\/strong>‘ invites you to dream away in these hectic times. The intro consists of piano sounds together with the clear, dreamy vocals of Leah. In the background there is a touch of melancholic music. The slightly electronic sounds are perfectly in balance with the whole, and occasionally give rise to slightly poppy influences. The music is well distributed over headphones. There are good contrasts between the lighter music, with the higher sounds and the somewhat ‘heavier’, lower sound. The volume differences in vocals and music are less, the lovely melody is pleasantly rippling on. It’s a pity that the end has been cut a little too soon.
Guest musicians for this single are: Bass player Erik Rademakers, guitarist Eelke Mastebroek and on synthesizer are David Thomaere and David Quakkelaar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

‘Agrypnia<\/em><\/strong>‘ will be heard on her debut EP ‘Elusive’, which she produced herself. Because of the lockdown, about 95% has been recorded in her own living room. In recent years Leah<\/em><\/strong> has grown on several fronts, also as a dreamcatcher. She has come closer to her own dream-pop style, you can hear that on ‘Elusive’. She adds experimental sounds to her dreamy music. So also uses (sometimes large) contrasts between dark and light. Various guest musicians have collaborated on her EP, including guitarist Mart Tahapary and keyboard player Daniel van Loenen. If everything goes well, ‘Elusive’ will be released in the course of next spring. Let’s hope that 2021 will be a better year, so that Leah cannot ‘only’ release her EP, but also tour extensively. She is ready for it! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
