Only a few people will be familiar with the Spanish Bis\u00f6nte<\/em> <\/strong>project, no wonder because this project started at the beginning of this year. But the band members are not real newcomers, so we know guitarist Vicente Pay\u00e1 from the death metal band ‘Unbounded Terror’ and the death\/doom band ‘Golgotha’. Mar\u00eda J. Llad\u00f3 sang on ‘Burning the Disease’ the latest album of the ‘Golgoltha’. Bass player Andrea Trujillo plus drummer Pablo Herrero joined the band, and soon they recorded their debut album ‘Ancestral Punishment<\/em><\/strong>‘. In November is the release of this EP, which contains six songs. The lyrics are about the destructive invasion of outlandish creatures. Their stoner\/doom music is heavy, dark, and has a depressive edge. For a physical copy you can choose from cd, lp and even cassette.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The album has a spherical opening, this is lighter than you would expect. But after about 20 seconds ‘Our Home<\/strong>‘ gets the heavy sound I was expecting. The sound is pleasantly dingy. Mar\u00eda’s vocals sound distorted. Her voice is of course a lot lighter than the music, it takes some time to get used to that contrast. The rest, which is more like a drop out, is remarkable. In the background you occasionally hear a small grunt from Vicente. For a moment the sound from the left part of the headphones is gone, this feels unnatural. Shortly afterwards there is a drop out. The bleeping sounds with which this track ends, continue in ‘Two Worlds<\/strong>‘. Here too there are cool grunts, now they are a bit more in the foreground, they form a perfect match with the music. Small parts played and sung are alternated with pleasant heavy pieces. Here Mar\u00eda is a bit more difficult to understand, because her voice is quite soft compared to the heavier sound. With special sounds and music, we continue nonstop with ‘Where Strangers Reside<\/strong>‘. The music is now well distributed over the headphones. Although there is a dark edge to the atmosphere, it is not too depressing at all. So, it remains accessible, this dies monotonously away to ‘The Arrival Of Our End<\/strong>‘.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Again, the intro attracts the attention, the (extensive) musical rest is well placed. Especially here, vocals and music have a depressive and monotonous flow, and yet it is intriguing! There are several rests in it, besides that there are also some tempo rapids. The minimalistic pieces are well interwoven between doom and stoner. After a suitable piece of restlessness, for a short period of time the music is played rather tightly but darkly. At the end of this well constructed epic there is a lingering tone. And so, begins ‘Ancestral Punishment<\/strong>‘. The first part has a bit of rousing in it. Although the atmosphere is less ‘depri’, the sound generally remains quite heavy and deep. Although this title track ends unexpectedly minimalistic. ‘New Beginning’ follows nicely on from that. The acoustic guitar playing creates melancholy. This last track is very calm, especially for doom\/stoner. And yet it fits perfectly with the previous tracks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bis\u00f6nte<\/em><\/strong> makes deep, heavy music in which they incorporate lighter elements. The dingy sound is mighty. The songs are well constructed, and the depressive edge is nowhere overpowering. Mar\u00eda’s characteristic lead vocals fit perfectly into the whole. Vicente’s voice may be a subtle addition, but it is fantastically done! There are various details in the music, not all of which you will hear at the first listen. So ‘Ancestral Punishment<\/em><\/strong>‘ is a good debut, and ‘Bis\u00f6nte<\/strong>‘ is a band name to remember!
