About five years ago the band ‘Circuline<\/em><\/strong>‘ was founded in New York. They play modern cinematic prog rock.
‘Circulive New View<\/em><\/strong>‘ is their second live CD\/DVD\/Blue ray. This ‘box’ will be released October 8th. The concert is already recorded in 2017, during the first edition of ‘International ProgStock Festival’.

Circuline<\/em><\/strong> opens their concert with the mysterious sounds of ‘Erosion<\/strong>‘. Seamlessly this merge into ‘Soleil Noir’. The keys of Andrew Colyer are clearly but pleasantly present in the instrumental song. Darin Brannon’s drumming is nice and tight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

‘One Wish<\/strong>‘ comes from ‘Circuline’, their debut album. There’s self-confidence in the voice of front lady Natalie Brown. And rightly so, because she has a versatile voice. At times she sounds a bit sensual, at other times she shows more power. The vocals with William “Billy Spillane” form a beautiful blend. Alek Darson’s guitar playing is delicious. Andrew shows special piano sounds. Of course, we must not forget the bass of Joel Simches. The instrumental piece is complex.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

‘Piano Challenge<\/strong>‘ lives up to his name. Darin and Andrew first play the piano in turns. When they play together, many piano tones ‘flutter around’. This is well distributed over the headphones. Beautiful clear sounds are alternated with heavier piano playing.This is not only varied, but also surprising. Suddenly the other instruments are added. Joel is now behind the drum kit. Like the previous songs, this song is also well constructed. The acoustic performance of ‘Return’ feels so natural. As if this song always was. The harmony vocals, in which Andrew also participates, is perfectly in balance with each other and with the music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also ‘Fallout Shelter<\/strong>‘ has a special intro. Alek conjures up all kinds of special sounds out of his strings. This instrumental song is unique and very proggy. \u2018Pale Blue Dot<\/strong>‘ is a cover of ‘Sound of Contact’, a band of Dave Kerzner. Matt Dorsey is a bass player there, and he also toured with Circuline<\/em><\/strong>. Circuline<\/em><\/strong> plays a great cover, that fits well with their own songs. ‘Forbidden Planet<\/strong>‘ has a cool opening. Andrew takes mysterious sounds out of his seaboard. Especially for this live performance a very good piece of percussion follows, in which all band members participate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The last three songs also have a fascinating structure. Everything is well to very well sung and played. William and Natalie both have a clear pronunciation and a beautiful voice. Their voices form an excellent harmony. And the same goes for the (background) singing of Andrew. Moreover, Natalie has a lot of power on her voice. Which is sometimes comparable to Durga McBroom, the backing vocalist of Pink Floyd, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The special, complex music has been carefully performed. The combination and\/or alternation between the different keyboards and guitars plus the bass is beautiful. This is very well complemented by the drumming. Because of all this Circuline<\/em><\/strong> has a very own sound. Besides that, they have grown as a band, so the songs have evolved.
I have been following Circuline<\/em><\/strong> for a number of years now, but they have surprised me absolute positively.

DVD\/Blue Ray<\/strong>
The CD comes with a DVD and Blue Ray. I had an error message with the DVD, so I could not play it. The Blue Ray did. Image and sound are fine. The editing is quiet, which fits with total setting. In short, ‘Circulive New View<\/em><\/strong>‘ is an asset to the prog lover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
