De diepe, bijna extreem lage zang van Chris Harms is kenmerkend. De bandleden maken zelf ook deel uit van het \u2018The Lord Of The Lost Ensemble\u2019. Dit ensemble is niet weg te denken uit de \u2018Swan Songs\u2019 serie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>CD1<\/strong><br>\u2019<strong>A Splintered Mind<\/strong>\u2019 heeft een mooi ingetogen intro. De theatrale zang van Chris wordt ondersteund door een vleugje muziek. De subtiele, maar staccato percussie vormt een prachtige combinatie met de licht klassieke muziek. Ondanks de bijzondere mix van stemkleur en de manier waarop de muziekinstrumenten ingezet zijn, is deze openingstrack toegankelijk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>De melodie in \u2018<strong>Dying On The Moon<\/strong>\u2019 is vriendelijk. Dit nummer is een ode aan het geloof in jezelf dat je de juiste beslissingen neemt. Dit is een duet met de Amerikaanse singer\/songwriter Joy Frost, haar stem vormt een groot contrast met die van Chris. Toch kleuren deze stemmen mooi bij elkaar. Vrij snel heb je de neiging om mee te zingen, dat komt ook door de gestapelde stemmen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018<strong>Zunya<\/strong>\u2019 is vrij optimistisch van klank, toch is de tekst niet bepaald vrolijk. Er lijkt vertrouwen in de stem van Chris te klinken. De diepe en lage stem van Chris horen we weer aan het begin \u2018<strong>Unfeel<\/strong>\u2019, zang en muziek worden al snel lichter. Er is regelmatig een wisselwerking tussen de verschillende stijlen en emoties. Details, zoals het akoestisch gitaarspel de achtergrond, geven zeker een meerwaarde. Toch moet dit album groeien, het voelt eenvoudig, maar is best complex.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Het klassieke intro van \u2018<strong>Deathless<\/strong>\u2019 raakt me keer op keer, de lichte melodie is prachtig. Dan volgt de onvoorstelbare lage zang. Dit vormt een mooi, groot contrast. De volgende transities verlopen over het algemeen geleidelijk, er zijn ontelbare details. Het minimalistische stukje is fantastisch gezongen en gespeeld. De opbouw naar meer volume is prachtig. Chris houdt de emotie op zijn stem. Hij laat horen dat je niet met enorme power hoeft te zingen om te overtuigen. Het einde is minimalistisch maar super.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In \u2018<strong>Agape<\/strong>\u2019 is het de sobere klank van strijkinstrumenten die mij raken. In de nummers die volgen blijft de emotie in zang en muziek bestaan. Chris laat allerlei emoties horen in zijn stem, de ene keer klinkt zijn diepe stem zwaarmoedig, een andere keer hoor je weer volharding. Maar Chris kan ook breekbaar zingen, meestal met behoud van het ruwe randje op zijn stem. Vooral de droevigere dingen zingt hij intens. Een aantal dingen in de tekst zijn clich\u00e9matig, maar dat is niet storend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>De woordeloze koorzang geeft een mooie aanvulling op het melancholieke \u2018<strong>We Were Young<\/strong>\u2019. De percussie blijft vrij strak, de melodie wordt iets frivoler. Ook nu verlopen de meeste wendingen geleidelijk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chris zingt enkele stukjes van \u2018<strong>Cut Me Out (Swan Songs III Version)<\/strong>\u2019 mooi breekbaar. De minimalistische stukken zijn prachtig. Ook de iets krachtiger gezongen delen komen binnen Dit nummer is zeer solide opgebouwd, dat zijn bijna alle nummers wel<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>De percussie tijdens het eerste stuk van \u2018<strong>My Heart Is Black (Swan Songs III Version)<\/strong>\u2019 is anders dan anders, maar subliem. De drama in muziek zorgt mede voor de mooie structuur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Als laatste \u2018<strong>Letters To Home (Swan Songs III Version)<\/strong>\u2019. Het instrumentale intro is somber. Chris zingt zijn woorden heel laag en een beetje schor. Sommige delen vertolkt hij bijna fluisterend, hier legt hij veel gevoel in. Ook nu worden diverse emoties afgewisseld, zang en muziek zijn constant in harmonie. Het uitgebreide, minimalistische deel is ontroerend. Deze mooie epic heeft een bijzondere opbouw naar het einde.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>De geluidkwaliteit is iets te vlak, de vele details en de individuele muziekinstrumenten komen hierdoor minder goed tot hun recht. De afwisseling tussen soberheid in zang en muziek en frivolere stukken is prima, maar er is iets te weinig contrast tussen de hoge en lage tonen. Er mist dus een stukje dynamiek, waardoor de intensiteit deels verloren gaat. De zachter en langzamer gezongen delen zitten boordevol emotie.<br>Filmisch, theatraal en sober dan zijn de drie steekwoorden van dit album. De melodieuze delen zorgen dat het allemaal net iets luchtiger wordt. Je moet wel in de mood zijn om naar deze dubbelaar te luisteren. Want eerlijk is eerlijk, \u2018<strong><em>Swan Songs III<\/em><\/strong>\u2019 is best een hele kluif, maar zeker een aangename! Bovendien sluiten dit album aan bij zijn voorgangers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Als je naar alle drie de albums achter elkaar wilt luisteren, heb je er bijna een dagtaak aan. Maar af en toe moet je jezelf een dag gunnen om naar het hele epos te luisteren. Again, most turns are gradual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chris sings some pieces of &#8216;<strong>Cut Me Out (Swan Songs III Version)<\/strong>&#8216; nicely fragile. The minimalistic pieces are beautiful. Also, the slightly more powerful sung parts come in. This song is very solid, that&#8217;s almost all songs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The percussion during the first piece of &#8216;<strong>My Heart Is Black (Swan Songs III Version)<\/strong>&#8216; is different but sublime. The drama in music is partly responsible for the beautiful structure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, &#8216;<strong>Letters To Home (Swan Songs III Version)<\/strong>&#8216;. The instrumental intro is dark. Chris sings his words very low and a bit hoarse. Some parts he almost whispers, here he puts a lot of feelings in it. Again, various emotions are alternated, vocals and music are constantly in harmony. The extensive, minimalistic part is touching. This beautiful epic has a special structure towards the end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The sound quality is a little too flat, the many details and the individual musical instruments do not come into their own. The alternation between sobriety in vocals and music and more frivolous pieces is fine, but there is slightly too little contrast between the high and low tones. So, there is a piece of dynamics missing, which means that the intensity is partly lost. The softer and slower sung parts are full of emotion.<br>Cinematic, theatrical and sober then are the three key words of this album. The melodic parts make it all just a little bit lighter. You have to be in the mood to listen to this double. Because to be honest, &#8216;<strong><em>Swan Songs III<\/em><\/strong>&#8216; is quite a task but certainly a pleasant one! Moreover, this album fits with its previous albums.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to listen to all three albums in a row, you almost can spend a whole day. But every now and then you have to allow yourself a day to listen to the whole epic.
