Na hun vorige album \u2018What If Never Was\u2019 (2012) bleef het lang stil. Dit kwam omdat gitarist\/toetsenist Gregg Olson getroffen was door een beroerte. Hoewel het een lange weg was, is hij beter hersteld dan verwacht. Nu is hun nieuwste album \u2018<strong><em>A Window To October<\/em><\/strong>\u2019 uit. Zelf beschrijven ze hun muziek ongeveer als volgt: \u201c<em>Onze muziek combineert een spookachtige schoonheid en textuur in de muziek, met zeer zware, krachtige stukken<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018<strong>Adventures In The Kings Garden<\/strong>\u2019 heeft een redelijke rustige start. Allison VonBuelow heeft een prettige stem met een vrij duidelijke uitspraak in de langzamere delen. Het volumeverschil in de rustige delen en de rockende delen had groter mogen zijn. De ritmesectie zorgt voor heerlijke basis solide basis, al halen de drums qua volume soms iets te veel aandacht weg van de details in de muziek. Het geheel heeft nu niet de impact die het verdient. Het einde wordt langzaam weggedraaid. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Het intro van \u2018<strong>From Sea To Infinity<\/strong>\u2019 is zonder drums. Als de drums erbij komen, blijft de dromerige sfeer nog even bestaan. Zo nu en dan zijn er Arabische klanken in de muziek verwerkt. Zang en muziek zitten in dezelfde ontspannen flow. De muziek is dus overwegend vrij rustig, toch zijn er veel details aan toegevoegd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In de titeltrack blijft deze rustige sfeer bestaan. Er zijn wel degelijk wat rockende elementen toegevoegd, maar ze zijn zeker niet heavy. Er is een mooie dynamiek in het drummen en het gitaarspel is met vlagen meeslepend. Op het eind worden zang en muziek weggedraaid. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018<strong>The Forgotten<\/strong>\u2019 heeft een vrij abrupt einde, \u2018<strong>Skipping On Frozen Fire<\/strong>\u2019 eindigt weer in een fade out, jammer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>De start van \u2018<strong>Jupiters Calling<\/strong>\u2019 is sferisch, er is leuk gespeeld met de verdeling van het geluid in de koptelefoon. Ondertussen worden er heerlijke bas grooves toegevoegd. <br>Deze instrumentale track bevat veel bijzondere details en allerlei geluiden. De opbouw naar het einde toe is vrij kort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hoewel de wendingen in \u2018<strong>LVX<\/strong>\u2019 over het algemeen in elkaar overvloeien, zijn ze toch regelmatig onverwacht. De muziek heeft best veel laagjes, maar komen niet altijd helemaal goed tot zijn recht. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>De nummers die hierna komen passen goed bij elkaar, en bij de voorgaande nummers. De tendens is rustgevend, toch zit er regelmatig wat rockende stukken in verwerkt. De meeste tempo en volumewisselingen verlopen geleidelijk. De afwisseling dan wel het samenspel tussen snaren en synthesizer(s) is prima. Het gitaarspel is af en toe lekker rockend. De bas is aangenaam aanwezig, en zorgt samen met de drums vaak voor een rustige flow. Maar ook de synthesizers dragen met vlagen bij aan een dromerige sfeer. Een aantal nummers wordt op het einde weggedraaid.<br>Hoewel <strong><em>Scarlet Hollow<\/em><\/strong> over hun muziek zegt dat er heavy stukken in zitten, is het verschil tussen sferische\/rustige muziek en de heavy rock (veel) minder groot dan verwacht. Er zijn minder rockende delen dan op &#8216;<strong>What If Never Was<\/strong>\u2019.<br>Wie van grote tegenstellingen houdt, zal hier misschien wat missen. De contrasten zijn er meer in de hoge versus lage tonen, zoals te hoen is in bijvoorbeeld \u2018<strong>Skipping On Frozen Fire<\/strong>\u2019.
