De bandleden komen uit diverse gevestigde bands. Maar <strong><em>Deathwhite<\/em><\/strong> is een studioband, en daarom blijft hun identiteit een mysterie. \u2018<strong><em>Grave Image<\/em><\/strong>\u2019 is hun tweede album. De nummers gaan over de onvolmaaktheid van de mensheid in zijn doen en laten. De mens verdraait waarheden, is hypocriet en put de aarde uit door alsmaar grondstoffen te gebruiken. Dit album zal zwaarder zijn dan hun debuut, For a Black Tomorrow\u2019 (2018). Bovendien zijn er orkestrale elementen dat klinkt veelbelovend! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018<strong>Funeral Ground<\/strong>\u2019 heeft een vrij rustige start, de zang is zonder woorden. De metal die volgt is in een heerlijk rustig tempo. Het tempo blijft laag, de zang is clean, de stem is wat lichter dan je vaak hoort in de metal. Af en toe hoor je een andere, zware lage stem. De volumewisselingen hadden wat meer contrast mogen bevatten. De opbouw naar het einde is vrij gewoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Het tempo in \u2018<strong>In Eclipse<\/strong>\u2019 ligt meteen een stuk hoger. De melodie blijft bestaan, de bastonen zijn vet laag. Het geluid is een beetje groezelig, maar dat past hier wel.<br>In bepaalde stukjes hoor je een blikkerig, trillend geluid. Het klein gespeelde deel heeft net niet de impact die het zou moeten hebben. Het eind is onverwacht, maar mooi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>De drums houden zich stil in her intro van \u2018<strong>Further from Salvation<\/strong>\u2019. Maar als ze zich laten horen, dan is dit uit de metal hoek. Vrij snelle metal wisselt een paar keer met iets rustigere muziek. Steeds is die wending er na enkele seconden. De fluisterende woorden zijn in balans met de zachte, langzame muziek. Weer zit er een \u2018bijgeluidje\u2019 alsof er op een te dunne cimbaal wordt gespeeld. In een heerlijk metal deel is er een mooi staaltje drumwerk.<br>Ondanks de variatie en de gevestigde namen zijn de eerste drie nummers geen toppers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dat heeft deels te maken met het geluid. De klein gespeelde delen klinken niet altijd helder genoeg. De zwaar gespeelde delen hadden wat meer body mogen hebben. Een aantal wendingen zijn vrij voorspelbaar.  Daarnaast eindigt \u2018<strong>Grave Image<\/strong>\u2019 door de fade out een beetje fantasieloos. En \u2018<strong>Among Us<\/strong>\u2019 wordt te vroeg afgekapt. Ook hier zit dat onnatuurlijke, rinkelend geluid weer in, dat gaat op den duur irriteren.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>De rustige start van \u2018<strong>Words of Dead Men<\/strong>\u2019 raakt mij minder dan ik had gehoopt.<br>Sommige woorden worden wat langer gerekt, dan valt het extra op dat de zang wat lichter is dan we gewend zijn in de metal. In klein gezongen deel is zang en muziek goed in balans, maar er mist wat emotie. Het geheel kruipt niet onder mijn huid. Het gitaarspel is wel tof, dat had wel iets langer mogen duren. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>De \u2018orkestrale elementen\u2019 zijn zo ver op de achtergrond in het intro van \u2018<strong>Return to Silence<\/strong>\u2019 dat ze vrij weinig impact hebben. Ook dit laatste nummer heeft op zich voldoende wendingen. Maar het geheel komt niet helemaal binnen. <br>En dat geldt voor een groot deel van deze cd. Het geluid is te vlak. De sound van de dark metal klinkt wat te oppervlakkig. De akoestische\/orkestrale delen zijn niet sprankelend genoeg. De melodie\u00ebn zijn best aardig, maar niet heel intens. Daarnaast zijn sommige nummers te vroeg afgekapt, of is de opbouw naar het einde vrij summier waarop het niet helemaal af voelt. The build-up to the end is quite simple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The tempo in &#8216;<strong>In Eclipse<\/strong>&#8216; is a lot higher right away. The melody remains, the bass notes are boldly low. The sound is a bit dingy, but that fits here.<br>In certain parts you hear a tinny, vibrating sound. The small part played just doesn&#8217;t have the impact it should have. The end is unexpected, but beautiful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The drums keep quiet in the intro of &#8216;<strong>Further from Salvation<\/strong>&#8216;. But when they make themselves heard, this is from the metal &#8216;side&#8217;. Pretty fast metal changes a few times with a bit quieter music. Every time this turn is there after a few seconds. The whispering words are in balance with the soft, slow music. Again there is a buzz-sound as if playing on a too thin cymbal. There is a nice piece of drumming in a delightful metal part.<br>In spite of the variation and the established names, the first three songs are not top notch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That has partly to do with the sound. The small played parts do not always sound clear enough. The heavily played parts could have had a bit more body. Some twists and turns are quite predictable.  Besides that, &#8216;<strong>Grave Image<\/strong>&#8216; ends a bit unimaginative because of the fade out. And &#8216;<strong>Among Us<\/strong>&#8216; is cut off too early. Again, that unnatural, ringing sound is in there as well, that will irritate in the long run.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The quiet start of &#8216;<strong>Words of Dead Men<\/strong>&#8216; touches me less than I had hoped.<br>Some words are stretched a bit longer, then it is noticeable that the vocals are a bit lighter than we are used to in metal. In small sung part vocals and music are well balanced, but some emotion is missing. The whole thing does not get under my skin. The guitar playing is nice, it should have lasted a bit longer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The &#8216;orchestral elements&#8217; are so far in the background in the intro of &#8216;<strong>Return to Silence<\/strong>&#8216; that they have quite little impact. Also, this last track has enough twists and turns on its own. But the whole thing does not quite come in. <br>And that goes for a large part of this CD. The sound is too flat. The sound of the dark metal is a bit too superficial. The acoustic\/ orchestral parts are not sparkling enough. The melodies are quite nice, but not very intense. Besides that, some of the songs are cut too early, or the build-up to the end is rather brief and it doesn&#8217;t feel completely finished.
