Het verhaal hierop speelt zich af in het jaar 2187. Miller McKee was ooit een wetenschapper met aanzien, maar hij is aan lagerwal geraakt. Onverwacht krijgt hij telefoon dat zijn ex vermoord is. Zij was ook een wetenschapper en hield zich in het geheim bezig met teleportatie. Dit is een voorwerp (of een persoon) van de ene naar de andere plaats verplaatsen, zonder dat het object, of de persoon de ruimte tussen deze plaatsen doorkruist. Miller gaat op onderzoek uit\u2026.<br>Diverse acteurs brengen vertellend en\/of zingend de personages tot leven. Bij het album zit geen tekstboekje, de tekst is te downloaden\/uitprinten. Dit zijn maar liefst 39 pagina\u2019s, deze heb je echt nodig om te weten wie welke rol speelt, en om het verhaal te begrijpen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018<strong>Overture<\/strong>\u2019 start rustig met gesproken delen uit eerdere ruimtemissies. Gelijktijdig met de muziek gaat dit over naar toekomstige missies, ruimtestations, en een nieuwsuitzending van de Kolonie Mars Twee. De toegevoegde geluiden maken het een ruimteaspect extra duidelijk. Er is een uitgebreid opgenomen telefoongesprek tussen Miller en Violet. Met sampling eindigt deze openingstrack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In \u2018<strong>Accidents Will Happen<\/strong>\u2019 hoor je een mooie mix van prog rock en een licht poppy sound. De diverse stemmen vormen samen een mooie match. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In de tracks die volgen hoor je binnen \u00e9\u00e9n track hoor je een afwisseling van gezongen, instrumentale en gesproken stukken. Er wordt volop gebruik gemaakt van sampling, dit is in harmonie met het verhaal. <br>De verschillende laagjes (akoestisch) gitaarspel trekken de aandacht in \u2018<strong>Mr. McKee<\/strong>\u2019. Dit is een van de weinige tracks die je vrij gemakkelijk mee zingt. Toch is het gesprek tussen Miller en Violet wat hierna komt niet storend. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Er is veel variatie in de onderlinge nummers. Het aspect \u2018space\u2019 is niet overheersend, maar loopt duidelijk door het verhaal heen. Keer op keer valt de goede verdeling van het geheel over de koptelefoon, en de mooie blend van stemmen op. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In \u2018<strong>Waiting To Be<\/strong>\u2018 trekt de stem mijn aandacht. Dit vormt een mooie combinatie met de muziek, waarin het geluid van \u2018strijkinstrumenten\u2019 verwerkt zit, en het glockenspiel. Het snellere stuk heeft behoorlijk wat laagjes en details. Het klein gespeeld stukje hierin, maakt indruk. Het nummer eindigt klein.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Er gebeurt een heleboel in \u2018<strong>2048 Numbers<\/strong>\u2018, en het is vrij complex. Na een geluid dat bij tijdreizen\/ teleportatie hoort, merk je dat Miller in een andere omgeving is. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cd 2<\/strong><br>Miller heeft het bij zijn terugkeer duidelijk benauwd in \u2018<strong>Emergency Exit<\/strong>\u2019.<br>\u2018<strong>March of Fate<\/strong>\u2019 speelt weer in de \u2018tegenwoordige tijd\u2019, ergens aan de kust. Dat is te horen aan het geluid van de golven. Een marstempo op drums klinkt samen met blazers en andere klassieke elementen. Ondertussen praat de Narrator, de muziek is even filmisch van karakter. <br>Aan het begin van \u2018<strong>Fireworks<\/strong>\u2019 is er een hard piepend geluid, niet echt fijn met de koptelefoon. Het verhaal gaat verder in zang en gesproken woorden. De muziek blijft divers en er zijn veel overgangen in ritme, volume en tussen diverse instrumenten. Regelmatig hoor je een aantal laagjes akoestisch gitaren, dit wordt soms afgewisseld met wat meer rockend gitaarspel.<br>Tijdens het intro van de epic &#8216;<strong>Infinite Within<\/strong>\u2019 wordt de spanning opgebouwd. Er volgt (voorlopig) geen onrust, even is het zelfs licht zoet als \u201c<em>Please come back to me<\/em>\u201d de eerste keren wordt gezongen. Er is een mooie, langzame opbouw naar meer pit. Na een gave wending is de muziek apart, maar boeiend. Er is een vleugje Arabische sound, ook deze laatste track heeft volop wendingen. Een enkel piepklein kraakje valt nauwelijks op, maar de mini drop-out hoor ik iedere keer. Ondanks deze kleine oneffenheden is dit een fantastische afsluitende track.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Op hun debuutalbum \u20181975 Triptych\u2019 haalde &#8216;<strong><em>M-Opus<\/em><\/strong>&#8216; hun inspiratie uit 1975. Nu uit 1978, dat is te zien aan de Romeinse cijfers op de cover. Bovendien is dat terug te horen op \u2018<strong><em>Origins<\/em><\/strong>\u2018 bijvoorbeeld in het toetsenwerk. Door de gesproken delen en de verhaallijn, ontstaat er een andere manier van luisteren. Je moet echt even de tijd nemen om het album te laten groeien. Toch vallen er al veel details op als je voor de eerste keer luister, zoals de cimbalen die secuur bespeeld zijn. Multi-instrumentalist Jonathan Casey is professioneel componist voor tv en film. Samen met Mark Grist en Colin Sullivan heeft hij vijf jaar aan dit album gewerkt. A single tiny squawk hardly stands out, but I hear the mini drop-out every time.
