Na een stilte van vier jaar is \u2018<strong><em>Cell-0<\/em><\/strong>\u2019 hun negende studio album, en het eerste instrumentale album sinds zeventien jaar. Waar de complexe nummers over gaan, dat vertellen ze niet. De luisteraar mag zijn\/haar eigen idee erover hebben.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2018<strong>Ashes Of The Modern World<\/strong>\u2019 heeft een vrij sobere start. Eerst is drummer Mikko een paar keer heel even te horen, daarna vult hij de sobere melodie vaker aan. De soberheid maakt plaats voor de metal. Zowel in de sobere stukken als in de metal gedeelten zijn er diverse wendingen. Met vlagen ligt het tempo flink hoog. Elders is de muziek best zwaar van opzet, maar daar ligt het tempo onverwacht laag. De opbouw is dus apart, maar boeiend. Het aantal laagjes is groter dan verwacht, het geheel is meeslepend. Het einde is mysterieus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2018<strong>Cell-0<\/strong>\u2019 start mysterieus en meeslepend, de wending naar de metal is wat minder spectaculair dan verwacht. Lage zware tonen, en hoge frivole tonen zijn regelmatig samen te horen. Het contrast hiertussen had meer impact gehad als het geluid in zijn totaal voller had geklonken. Ondanks dit minpuntje zijn er talloze details te horen. Het minimalistische deel is subliem in het geheel verweven. Het is steeds weer verrassend wat deze mannen uit hun cello\u2019s weten te halen. De wending naar meer power is zeer goed. De ongewone structuur zorgt voor een aparte, maar mooie luisterbeleving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2018<strong>En Route To Mayhem<\/strong>\u2019 start mysterieus. Dan vliegt het tempo omhoog, en het gaat steeds sneller. Vooral de cello\u2019s worden supersnel bespeeld. Ook de drumvellen worden in hoog tempo geraakt, dit is een stukje trash metal. De opbouw naar het einde is weer bijzonder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Strak gespeelde delen wisselen elkaar af met melodische delen, daarnaast wisselen lichter gespeelde, soms vriendelijk klinkende stukken elkaar af met metal. Ook binnen de metal hoor je regelmatig verschillende stijlen, en zeker volop wendingen. De transities binnen de nummers zijn soms totaal onverwacht. Je moet echt een flink aantal keer luisteren voordat je de nummers een beetje kent. Toch voelen ze direct comfortabel aan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Het einde van \u2018<strong>Scream For The Silent<\/strong>\u2019 is door de fade out vrij saai.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dat wordt weer goed gemaakt met de opening van \u2018<strong>Catharsis<\/strong>\u2019. De contrasten tussen metal en klassiek en tempo\/volume zijn hier minder groot. Maar dat maakt voor de intensiteit en de passie waarmee gespeeld wordt niet uit, deze zijn voelbaar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ook in \u2018<strong>Beyond The Stars<\/strong>\u2019 is het genieten van zowel de klassieke als de metal elementen, en de soms plotselinge wendingen. Sommige delen zijn sferisch andere stukken zijn duidelijk metal. Hier zijn ze bijna constant onlosmakelijk met elkaar verbonden. Een lage stem spreekt enkele zinnen, deze klinken samen met de muziek. Niet ieder woord is goed te verstaan, maar dan hoeft niet. De opbouw naar het einde is weer super. Zo sterft deze laatste track langzaam weg. Zo\u2019n gaaf album had gerust langer mogen duren!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ondanks dat het geluid net niet perfect is, is het wel degelijk goed. Er is prima gespeeld met de verdeling over de koptelefoon. Met een pedal board halen ze de meest bijzondere geluiden uit hun cello\u2019s. Door de sublieme manier van spelen en de ongewone composities en word ik betoverd door de muziek. Magie is het passende woord voor <strong><em>Apocalyptica<\/em><\/strong>. The build-up to the end is special again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tightly played parts alternate with melodic parts, next to that lighter played, sometimes friendly sounding parts alternate with metal. Also, within the metal you regularly hear different styles, and certainly plenty of twists and turns. The transitions within the songs are sometimes totally unexpected. You really have to listen quite a few times before you know the songs a bit. Still, they feel comfortable right away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The end of &#8216;<strong>Scream For The Silent<\/strong>&#8216; is quite boring because of the fade out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That&#8217;s compensated with the opening of &#8216;<strong>Catharsis<\/strong>&#8216;. The contrasts between metal and classical and tempo\/volume are less strong here. But that does not matter for the intensity and passion with which is played, these are felt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Also, in &#8216;<strong>Beyond The Stars<\/strong>&#8216; is the enjoyment of both classical and metal elements, and the sometimes sudden turns.
