The?Truth is the final part of \u2018The?Book\u2019. The concept of this trilogy is the critical view of (contemporary) fanaticism in religion. The story is sung by several character\/guest vocalists, including Peter Jones (Camel, Tiger Moth Tales) and Elisabeth Markstein (Alphaville). \u2018The?Truth\u2019 was recently released on CD. The complete trilogy will also be released as a limited De deluxe artbook, in which the complete story is additionally clarified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Revelations\u2019 has a tightly played intro. You can hear the different voices of the characters. Grandfather grunts part of his lyrics, the other characters sing. You do need the textbook to understand the story well. But even without the textbook, it is clear that pregnancy plays a significant role. Rock is interspersed, or mixed with classical elements. The build-up to the end of the opening track is beautiful.
The sound of the instruments suits \u2018Africa\u2019. Shelena sings with her beautiful clear voice pretty much solo. The mood and instruments change, but the music remains balanced. Not all the voices differ much at first. You have to listen (or read along) a few times to know who is singing what. The flashbacks make it extra challenging to understand the story completely. But even without understanding everything, you can feel that things are happening here. Beautiful saxophone playing is followed by a transition to metal. The many twists and turns flow well, with a lot coming your way. At times the voices are stacked, this sounds fine. Instrumentally, at times there are many layers, at other times everything is more subdued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flashbacks are also there in \u2018Hearing Voices\u2019. \u2018Alpha & Omega III\u2019 is a dialogue between father and grandfather. It includes soundscapes, saxophone playing and various details of different instruments. At one point, this rather quiet song seems to end, but it is a twist. A little later, this slowly fades out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The start of \u2018Hallucinations\u2019 is quiet. Again, there are several twists in tempo, volume and instruments. Among other things, there is wonderful and varied guitar playing. You might have to get used to one of the last changes and the special part (with the spoken words and sampling) that follows this.
This flows into \u2018Hearts On Strings\u2019, again there are some special transitions. This track is varied but uniquely constructed. There are quite a lot of volume changes. This might make it a bit of a search for the right volume if you listen with headset. \u2018When You Get To See Me\u2019 is one of the tracks that plays in the hospital. Tempo and volume are quite high at times. What all happens, I won’t reveal. But after a hectic section, the end is sudden. This forms a lovely contrast with the acoustic guitar sounds of \u2018Hear My Voice\u2019. After a transition to rock\/metal, with vocal parts, there is a special turn to a quieter part. This feels like a phase between dreaming and waking up. The spoken words seem to come from far away, like in a dream. The sampled sounds fit this mood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The blend of voices in \u2018A Dream That Stayed\u2019 is very attractive. Things are not going well for Evangeline. Again, you can hear the emotion in Samuel’s voice. You feel the emotion in the instrumental piece too. This complex trilogy seems to end, but another quiet piece with sampled sounds follows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The CDs can also be listened to separately. But if you have a lot of time, listening to them back-to-back is quite special.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
