Projekt Gemineye – Man of science.. man of dreams

’Man of science.. man of dreams’ is het derde album dat Mark uitbrengt.

Projekt Gemineye is een one man project. Mark Anthony K verdient met zijn ‘Man of science.. man of dreams’ een flinke pluim!

Projekt Gemineye – Man of science.. man of dreams

Mark Anthony K is a multi instrumentalist from Canada. He is the man behind Project Gemineye. He has been inspired by Rush, Dream Theater and King Crimson. Man of science… man of dreams‘ is Mark’s third album. On this theme album the lyrics are about science, dreams, adventures and the hope for a better future.

The bleeping sounds seem to come from a game, they belong to ‘Virtual Reality‘. This sounds place for rock, the first turn is a beautiful one! The extensive instrumental piece is wonderful, the sound is well distributed over the headphones. Mark’s voice sounds extinguished here, which fits in the lyrics. In the chorus his voice kinks less tired, there are several voices to be heard, this gives a fuller sound in the rock.
After listening a few times you sing along parts of the lyrics. About halfway this song goes through the rocking, instrumental part more life. Projekt Gemineye holds on to that, even when the vocals are added again. In general the balance between the heavier strings and the percussion is fine. Although the timbre between the drums is not entirely in balance. The turn to the keys is surprising, a little later this opening number dies away.

Cosmic Sea‘ starts with electronic sounds, but the rock follows quickly. When Mark starts singing, tempo and volume go down. He sings quite a lot at about the same tempo and volume. Moreover, he has no mega-size range, so the vocals are occasionally used too predictably. The colour of his voice is friendly and tends more towards the sing- and songwriter than the rocker side. Still, his voice has a good coloring on the whole. During the breaks there is more than enough pitch difference between the drums. Instrumental and vocal parts alternate, in both the bass is pleasantly present. The end dies away completely.

To Hope…To Dream‘ regularly has quite a few layers, in which you can also hear acoustic guitar. But the number of layers changes, so the acoustic guitar is (almost) solo in a minimalistic piece. Sometimes the instruments sound on the same line in rhythm and/or melody, at other moments they seem to go against each other. Despite these contrasts, the balance is usually fine.

Secret Science‘ starts with sampled sounds of seeping water. At a certain point, robot-like sounds are added to the mysterious music. Then follows a rocking piece. The strings are pleasantly heavy played, this mixes with nice drums and higher tones of the keys. Electronic sounds take the place of rock, the sound of seeping water can be heard in the background. For a moment there is doubt whether this song will die away, but the rock returns. This beautiful epic ends quietly.

Also the last song, ‘Traces Of The Past‘ is well constructed. There is more variation in the music than in the vocals. The end dies away nicely.

All songs have an alternation between the more rocking parts, and the quietly played parts. Vocally there are possibilities for improvement in terms of variation in volume, tempo and possibly pitch. By accentuating certain words and/or phrases in the future, the lyrics will get more emotion.
Everything is well distributed over the headphones, the sound quality is fine. Project Gemineye is a one man project. Mark Anthony K deserves a big compliment with his ‘Man of science… man of dreams‘!
