In Contimuum – “Acceleration Theory – Part 2: Annihilation”

Dit loopt mooi over naar ‘You Don’t Know How It Feels’.

Door het rustige tempo in ‘Know That You Are’ verslapt mijn aandacht een beetje.

De start van ‘All That Is’ is bijzonder.

Het tweede deel heet ‘The Battle Rages On’.

In Contimuum – “Acceleration Theory – Part 2: Annihilation”

The prog band Sound of Contact ceased to exist. That’s why multi-instrumentalist Dave Kerzner founded IN CONTINUUM.

Last year ‘Acceleration Theory Part 1‘ was released. This science fiction album takes place in the year 2074. AlienA (sung by Leticia Wolf) and the earthly Kai (performed by Gabriel Agudo) fell in love with each other. Now the sequel ‘Annhilation‘ is out. World War III has begun, Kai and all the others have to defend themselves. With everything Kai has learned from AlienA, he shows that man can do much more than he imagined. Can Kai convince the Council to give the people of Earth another chance?

Impending Annihilation‘ is a cool instrumental opening track that slowly dies away. This runs nicely over to ‘You Don’t Know How It Feels‘. The voices of the three men colour well together. The same goes for the voice of Leticia Wolf, she can also be heard now and then. Because of the accessible structure, you soon sing the chorus along. Of course, the keyboard playing work is very good, Dave’s nickname is ‘Squids’ for a reason. Because Dave is so skilful on the keys and the foot pedals that it seems like he has more than one pair of hands and feet.

AlienA’s voice is in harmony with the mysterious music of ‘In Her Cocoon‘. This short track has been cut a little too early.

There is sung in a special way in ‘Vampires of the Soul‘. Sometimes there are sentences, sometimes only one word, vocals and music constantly form a unity. It is not easy to see the story happening in front of you. This is partly because singing and music do not contain so many different emotions. Yet even without being caught up by the story, you can still enjoy the tracks, which are sometimes a bit dreamy.

But there are also pieces with more power, like in ‘Made of Stars‘. The dull sound fits in the storyline on its own.
Because of the slow pace in ‘Know That You Are‘ my attention looses a bit. A twist in the middle attracts my attention, and that keeps ‘IN CONTINUOUS’.
The War Room‘ is a short track that fits well in the concept.

The start of ‘All That Is‘ is special. Jon Davison has his own voice colour, yes fans will recognize it immediately. This is a track you can listen to a few times in a row. One time you might hear Jon’s vocals a bit more, another time the strings, or just the keys attract more attention. This is a special, but cool track.

The SF-elements are clearly visible in ‘Annihilation‘. In the beginning the music has a cinematic character. The second part is called ‘The Battle Rages On’. The restlessness that accompanies this, is expressed in vocals and music. In this epic (which consists of four parts) the twists and turns are most clear. The concept and thus the storyline come more to life here. More information about the story can be found in the beautifully executed booklet, that’s why I won’t tell anything else about it. Interstellar Reunion‘ is an excellent closing track.

The details would have been better if the sound would have been more clear.
Still, the way the sound is applied fits the SF-concept. You don’t have to be a SF fan to enjoy this second album of ‘IN CONTINUUM‘.
