Franck Carducci – The Answer

(Love is) The Answer’ start rustig.

Wie Franck wel eens live heeft gezien, herkent ‘On the Road to Nowhere’, een akoestische meerstemmige (bonus)track. Even later klinkt dit korte tijd vervormd.

Want ‘The Answer’ is een fantastisch album!

Franck Carducci – The Answer

In 2010 singer/multi-instrumentalist Franck Carducci opened a show for Steve Hackett (Genesis). This was the inspiration for Franck to start a band and release a solo album. This album, ‘Oddity (2011)’ and the following tour became a success. The same goes for the successor ‘Torn Apart‘ (2014), on which Steve played. There were more successes: Last year Franck Carducci won the ‘The Classic Rock Society award’ with their tour ‘On The Road to Nowhere’; for the ‘Best Overseas Band’. With that they beat the Neal Morse Band, Nad Sylvan and other big names in the prog world. That says a lot about this band, which performs fantastic prog rock shows in a theatrical way.
The album ‘The Answer‘ will be released on November 28th. On this varied and passionate prog album, you can hear a mix of melodic rock, blues, 70s rock and a portion of hard rock.

(Love is) The Answer‘ starts quietly. The didgeridoo and some added sounds create a mysterious atmosphere, you are immediately captivated by the music. The guitar playing is sparkling. The gentle, friendly voice, Franck, matches the lyrics. Franck plays wonderful bass grooves. Tempo and volume increase a bit, meanwhile there are a lot of layers in vocals and music. You hear all kinds of extra sounds, like the sound of barchimes, a flute, and a buzzing sound. In short, there is a lot to listen to, without being bombastic.

Slave to Rock ‘n’ Roll‘ has a rousing rhythm. The background vocals are a mix of a hint of sweetness and cheerfulness. Despite the more accessible structure, this feel good song is unpredictable due to the many twists and turns. In a delightful instrumental piece, you can hear rocking guitar playing, the organ is tearing through it. Just before the end Franck produces beautiful singing.

Superstar‘ is the first epic. It is filled with cool twists and surprises.

Every song is full of ear candy, how about the special effect the Theremin in ‘The After Effect‘ gives? The drums are super, you can hear the differences in tone between the drums, on top of that the cymbals are regularly played fast but quiet. All songs contain countless details and changes, even the musical rests are well played.

The Game of Life‘ is a quiet track, in which you’ll hear nice and subdued trumpet playing. Franck sings the peaceful words with conviction.

Anyone who has ever seen Franck live will recognize ‘On the Road to Nowhere‘, an acoustic multi-voiced (bonus) track. The second bonus track is ‘Beautiful Night‘. During the quiet part the vocals are clear. A little later this sounds distorted for a short while. Everything is played and sung by himself, hats off!
Finally, the radio version of the first two songs, this brings the total playing time to about an hour.

This album is complex, with many unexpected twists and turns, and countless details. You’ll hear new things over and over again, and it’ll take a while before you get to know the songs. The sound quality is good, moreover, the many layers are very well distributed over the headphones / speakers. Singing and music are constantly in balance. Every intro attracts the attention and holds it until the end. Franck Carducci has made a fascinating and diverse album, with no less than 3 epics. The festive month of December is just around the corner. If you don’t want to or can’t buy this album right away, just put it on your wish list. Because ‘The Answer‘ is a fantastic album!
