CD 1 Lucillo & Giada
Scena I’ bestaat uit drie delen.
In ’Our Fate Lies All Around the Universe’ is de zang helder.

Dergelijke contrasten horen we in meerdere nummers.
Toch is alles prima in evenwicht.

Baro prog-jets is a musical project, the name of the project shows that this is about prog rock. Singer/multi-instrumentalist Alberto Molesini is the man behind this project. Lucillo & Giada and Topic Würlenio consists of 2 cd’s. These are two ‘separate’ CD’s that don’t follow each other.
Lucillo & Giada is a concept album, divided into 4 scenes. The songs merge into each other non-stop. There is a stop in the middle, to imitate an LP. The basis for this album was laid between 1977 and 1979, Alberto was still very young. The lyrics are partly autobiographical. Because of his young age then, the time frame of autobiography is only short. Alberto mixes his life story with fantasy, which is why the album is set up as a fairy tale. The lyrics are sung almost entirely in Italian.

CD 1 Lucillo & Giada
Scena I‘ consists of three parts. In the first movement, ‘Danza di Eden I’, the music is light, which forms a fine contrast with the rhythm that is equally staccato.
The multiple layers of music alternate in this short instrumental opening song. You can hear the turn to ‘Lamento‘. The first piece is instrumental. Then you hear equally wordless singing, followed by Italian singing. Sometimes there are several stacked voices. The sound of Alberto’s singing is friendly. This is in line with the music, which is more complicated than it seems at first sight. Every now and then a light rocking piece has been added. Moreover, there are quite a few details, which you won’t hear when you first listen.
The atmosphere of ‘Se Vorrai‘ is dreamy. The multiple voices are from Alberto. The Italian sounds and the color of the vocals are in harmony with the music. When he sings higher, the colour of his voice becomes slightly less warm. Not only does he sing, he also plays bass, guitars and keyboards, so it was a time-consuming job to take on everything. In ‘Scena II‘ the sound is not constantly clear, while the songs deserve it. Here the beautiful woman Giada plays a special role in Lucillo’s life. After drama there is hope. After ‘Scene II‘ the LP is turned around and there is a short silence before ‘Scena III‘ starts. Danza di Eden II’ has a different atmosphere. Moreover, it sometimes changes because of the twists and turns. The piano sounds at a certain moment provide a touch of cheerfulness.
In ‘Our Fate Lies All Around the Universe‘ the vocals are clear. The Italian sentences are alternated with a few sentences in English. The vocals are sometimes stacked, and the music contains nice details.
Drum and bass give ‘Ventiquattro Anziani (Scena IV)‘ a cool start. Before you know it, the music has been given a few more layers. Well done! At a certain moment the repetitions become a bit too much. Furthermore, this is a very well-constructed song, which contains the wordless vocals that you could hear earlier. It is a fantastic transition to the mysterious sounds of ‘Il Libro della Vita‘. Then we arrived at the last song: ‘Se Vorrai (il Ritorno). Elena Cipriani has some of the vocals in this quiet song. The end is slowly dying away.

The second CD ‘Topic Würlenio‘ is not a concept album. Alberto composed the basis of this between 1981 and 1983.

At first the electronic tones of ‘Mosaico d’Uomo Intro‘ sound a little light, but that changes to heavier and lower. This gives a remarkable yet pleasant mixture. In ‘Tracce di un’Avventura‘ the sound is not very bright, that is especially evident during guitar playing. Fat bass grooves are followed by piano playing, but sometimes sound simultaneously. This song is full of contrasts and has a nice ending. Such contrasts can be heard in several songs. Moreover, there are many twists and turns, some of which are very surprising.
Topic Würlenio‘ has a special intro, this title track can go in all directions. Again the special drumming is positive. But also the other half of the rhythm section, the bass, is clearly audible, and sometimes seem to be contradictory to each other.
High and low also provide contrast. In addition, the vocals sometimes go against each other. As if that isn’t enough, there are a number of unexpected turns, and details to be heard. Still, everything is well balanced. And despite the amount of listening work you are offered, it is not bombastic.
The end is a nice transition to ‘Variazioni su “Chiare Gocce di Pioggia”. After a short silence follows the a capella intro of ‘Mosaico d’Uomo‘.
The harmony song comes back again and runs nicely back and forth in the headphones. For a moment there is almost a cacophony of music, so Baro prog-jets is nearby the border of too much/not too much. The album has a nice, tight ending.

The design of these different CDs can cause some confusion. After all, they do not form a unity, but they do have overlaps in style.
The ‘harmony singing’ is not always a common, but a recognizable combination. The details in the music, also that of acoustic guitar, are sometimes stuck between the rest of the instruments. You can hear a lot of high keyboard tones, whether or not in combination with low tones. The opposites are not only in high/low. The contrasts are also in the rhythm. This gives an extra proggy twist in the already progressive setup. These albums will probably have to grow a bit.
