Little Geneva – Live at the Factory

Key to love’ is de eerste kennismaking met Little Geneva.
Someday, After a While (You’ll Be Sorry)’ is een aangenaam langzaam nummer.
All your love’ is natuurlijk ook een bekende.

De ‘old school’ sfeer is bewaard gebleven. Hopelijk gaan we ‘Little Geneva’ regelmatig in België en Nederland zien!

Little Geneva – Live at the Factory

Rarely does an EP of such a brand new band come out. The blues band ‘Little Geneva‘ (from Bristol) was founded on New Year’s Eve 2018! Little Geneva may be very young, but the five band members already have a lot of stage experience. Individually they were support act for example: Ray Davies (The Kinks) and John Fogerty (Creedence Clearwater Revival). And three of them toured with, among others, the Jon Amor Blues Group. Mid January ‘Live at the Factory‘ was recorded: This digital EP with five covers is already out! This is the forerunner of their full CD (physical copy) which is scheduled for March, here will also be their own songs. With these releases they want to draw attention to themselves, with the goal: To tour Europe a lot.

Key to love‘ is the first introduction to Little Geneva. Rags Russell has an excellent voice, and he is easy to understand. The guitar playing comes from the brothers Dave and Chris Doherty. The 60’s style is clearly preserved.
The same goes for ‘You Don’t Love Me‘ where Rags plays a delicious part on the blues harp. The whole thing is exciting and will certainly do well played live.
Someday, After a While (You’ll Be Sorry)‘ is a pleasant slow song. Pocket Ranyard plays sensitive grooves, and drummer Simon Small plays nicely subdued. Rags sings sensitively, it’s a pity that this very good ballad is also quite short. The short songs fit the time image of that time, but with longer songs one can be touched more intensely.
All your love‘ is of course also a familiar one. This old songs has been respectfully given a more modern look. Again the vocals are positive. The changes in tempo are well done. Yer Blues‘ is already the last song. And this is also fine.

The Factory is not a concert hall but a space to rehearse and record, so there was no audience present. For the recordings vintage equipment was used. The ‘old school’ atmosphere has been preserved. But the sound quality can measure up to the current standards. Moreover, the distribution over the headphones was well played. In short: ‘Little Geneva‘ has made me very curious about their CD that will be released in about a month. On this CD the blues harp will be heard more often. The blues lovers have something to look forward to! Hopefully we will see ‘Little Geneva‘ regularly in Belgium and the Netherlands!
