De uit LA afkomstige Fernando Perdomo is een multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter en producer. Hij tourt als gitarist mee onder andere met de band(s) van Dave Kerzner, dus Fernando staat regelmatig op de planken. Als soloartiest heeft hij diverse soloalbums uitgebracht. Zoals ‘Out to Sea’ een serie waarvan het derde deel onlangs is verschenen.
‘Out To Sea 3 Theme’ start heel kalm met akoestisch gitaarspel en het rustgevende geluid van golven. Stapje voor stapje verandert de muziek, volume en tempo nemen toe. De leuke details zijn met speels verdeeld over de koptelefoon. Op het einde komt het geluid van de golven nog even terug.
Ook ‘Wonder’ is aangenaam rustig. De veranderingen in de muziek verlopen geleidelijk.
Het gitaarspel is met vlagen meeslepend, er klinken ook lang aanhoudende tonen van de toetsen. Vlak voor het eind is er een onverwachte, maar gave wending.
In ‘Cycles’ is er wat meer rock, toch blijft het meespelende karakter bestaan.
Dit nummer eindigt mooi klein.
‘The Storm’ start kalmer dan verwacht. Er zijn mooie details en prachtig sprankelend gitaarspel. Even later lijken ritme en melodie een beetje tegen elkaar in te gaan, toch blijft de balans bestaan. Er zijn wat herhalingen in de muziek, maar er zijn ook volop veranderingen en details. Het akoestisch gitaarspel blijft de aandacht trekken.
Deze en de andere instrumentale nummers moeten groeien. Alles zit ingewikkelder in elkaar dan je in eerste instantie zou denken. Er zijn volop details in verwerkt die je pas na een paar keer hoort. Sommige delen van de nummers zijn dromerig, en meeslepend. Toch neemt de muziek neemt me niet mee zoals ik had verwacht. ‘Frenzy’ heeft meer power en zorgt voor een ‘break’. Ondanks de herhalingen in de muziek is het wel een complex nummer.
De nummers die hierna komen zijn aangenaam, al had ik er een beetje meer van verwacht. De leuke details vallen soms iets te weinig op.
In ‘Doom Is Often Loud’ is het gitaarspel heerlijk rockend. De drums gaan hierin mee. De opbouw naar het minimalistische einde is kort maar leuk.
Het akoestische intro van ‘Dawn’ is klein gespeeld. Er vloeien een aantal wendingen in elkaar over. Als de drums er even bij komen is er natuurlijk meer volume. Maar dan is er weer een rustig stuk. De opbouw naar het einde is mooi minimalistisch gespeeld. Ook op ‘Out to Sea 3’ staan 11 wat kortere instrumentale nummers. Deze zijn over het algemeen vrij rustig, maar er zitten ook wat meer rockende stukken en of jazz fusion elementen tussen. Het geheel luistert heerlijk weg.

‘Out To Sea 3 Theme‘ starts very calm with acoustic guitar playing and the soothing sound of waves. Step by step the music changes, volume and tempo increase. The nice details are playfully distributed over the headphones. At the end the sound of the waves comes back for a while.
Also ‘Wonder‘ is pleasantly quiet. The changes in the music are subtle.
The guitar playing is compelling with gusts, there are also long-lasting tones of the keys. Just before the end there is an unexpected, but cool twist.
In ‘Cycles‘ there is a bit more rock, yet the compelling character remains.
This song ends nicely small.
‘The Storm‘ starts calmer than expected. There are nice details and beautiful sparkling guitar playing. A bit later rhythm and melody seem to go against each other, yet the balance remains. There are some ‘repeats’ in the music, but there are also plenty of changes and details. The acoustic guitar playing continues to attract attention.
This and the other instrumental songs need to grow. Everything is more complicated than you would think at first. There are plenty of details in it, that you only hear after a few times. Some parts of the songs are dreamy and compelling. Still, the music doesn’t take me along as I expected. ‘Frenzy‘ has more power and creates a ‘break’. Despite the repetitions in the music, it is a complex song.
The songs that follow are pleasant, although I expected a bit more of it. The nice details sometimes stand out a bit too little.
In ‘Doom Is Often Loud‘ the guitar playing is wonderfully rocking. The drums go along with it. The build-up to the minimalistic end is short but fun.
The acoustic intro of ‘Dawn‘ is played small. A number of twists and turns flow into each other. When the drums come along there is more volume of course. But then there is a quiet piece again. The build-up to the end is nicely played minimalistic. Also, on ‘Out to Sea 3‘ there are 11 shorter instrumental songs. These are generally quite quiet, but there are also some more rocking and or jazz fusion elements in between. It’s really lovely and to listen to these songs.
